Mae, you said you had something to say? What is it about?" He asked, looking up at his mother as he laid in her lap.

"About that baby, I was thinking that since you are 25 and have started to save money, it is time you started a family and settled down." Achara said, caressing his hair.

Arthit was silent for a while; he was in deep thought. Seeing that Arthit had remained silent, she immediately said, "it's ok if you are not ready yet. Mae was just asking"

Arthit slowly got up from his mother's lap. "No Mae, it's not that I am not ready. Actually I was also thinking of settling down."

Achara's face lit up after hearing his reply. "Oh that's great, Oon. I have already chosen a girl for you and I am sure you will love her. But it's ok if you don't like her, Mae will find the best girl for you eventually."

"Mae, about that - I already have someone whom I love," Arthit said hesitantly.

Achara was silent for a second and she immediately gave Arthit a beautiful smile and said, "That's okay, Oon. Mae can understand. You could just tell her that your Mae has already found someone else for you and you don't need her anymore."

"Mae, you don't understand. I love her and I want to build a family with her. I want to grow old with her!"

"Oon baby, listen. Mae knows best. You are too naive and innocent to know anything about the world. You don't know how to judge people, you wouldn’t know when people have made use of you. Mae only wants the best things for you. Mae would never do anything that would harm you."

"Mae, please understand! I know her well. She is a really sweet, loving and caring girl. If you would just meet her once, you would know how nice of a girl she is. She would never break my heart and I really trust her."

"More than your Mae?"

"What? I don't understand, Mae."

"Do you trust that girl more than your Mae? What if she is a gold digger?"

"Mae! It's not that I trust her more than you! Please Mae, don't use such words to address the girl I love. Besides, it's not as if we have millions in our bank account. She is from a really good family! People may think that I’m the gold digger because of how rich her family is.”

"Enough Oon! You have never talked back to me like this before! Look at you, how you are fighting with your Mae over some random girl. Isn't it proof enough about how manipulative and cunning she is?"

"Mae! She is not like that! How could you judge her without meeting her? Please Mae, just meet her once and you will know how good a girl she is."

"That’s enough! I don't want to meet anyone and I don't want to know anyone! I have already planned a date for you next Saturday. She was one of my best students. You will meet her and if her family is agreeable with this relationship, you will proceed with it."

"Mae, how could you choose for me? What about my feelings? How could I spend my life with someone I don't love?"

"You have an entire life to learn to love your wife. And you will eventually. So be ready for the date next week. You know her too -  Namtan. She used to visit our home when she was still my student." 

With that, she left Arthit alone in the hall.

"Mae, if you are going to be stubborn then remember that I am your son too. I won't meet that perfect student of yours and I will never marry that girl!" Arthit yelled before storming into his room.
