jaehwa sat in the room with the rest of the adults and children. she sat in silence next to her grandma and seokhoon.
she glanced at Aera and Jumin ever so often, the two also sitting in silence.
The only thing on their mind was that the wrong person died today. On Aera, Jumin, and Minhyuk's mind. The wrong person fell down those stairs. The wrong person is bleeding to death.
"How long are we going to keep us in here!?" Joo Dan Tae stood up, upset.
"We're busy people you know!" The participants had been sitting in the room for over an hour, the police needing information on what had happened.
"If she were your daughter, would you say the same?" Yoonchul stated. Jaehwa kept her head down, not looking at the other parents and students.
"Someone would think she's your biological daughter, isn't Jaehwa yours?" Joo Dan Tae smirked, gesturing to the girl that sat on one of the couches.
"What makes you feel guilty that you want to run away without getting questioned?" Yoonchul grabs the man by the jacket, getting in his face.
"You're judging something, right?!" Another adult had tried separating them, ultimately failing.
"What did you just say?!" The fight between the adults continued, more people joining in sooner or later.
Jaehwa stayed put, not saying a single word. The girl stood up, just wanting to walk away.
"A child!" Jaehwa's eyes widened, turning towards the man. "A child was hurt tonight.
I'm not letting a single person out of this room without an alibi. so you better sit down, and shut your mouths." the room went silent, the adults finally agreeing to his concerns.
the adults sat in their separate chairs, all giving out their alibi. the police reached jaehwa, asking her the same question.
"where were you?" jaehwa sighed, getting ready to tell the truth.
"I was outside waiting for Aera, but when she didn't show up after five minutes I left, and walked back inside." The main cop nodded, writing down everything she had said.
"so no one saw you?" jaehwa looked down, shaking her head.
"my grandma saw me come back, but besides that, that's my only alibi. truth be told i hadn't see rona at all tonight, except for when she was on the stage." the cop nodded again, still typing.
"who is this girl's grandpa?" the old woman sitting beside jaehwa raised her hand, telling the officer it was her.
"where were you ms.?" her grandmother crossed her legs, getting ready to spew the nonsense she had to, just to protect her granddaughter.
"i stayed in my seat. my knees are bad so walking up and down the stairs would be a hassle." her grandmother explained.
"jaehwa had told me she would first go see aera, and she came right back, nothing different from when she first left." the officer nodded, and raised his head again.
"now who's aera?" the girl raised her hand, putting it right back down she the cop nodded.
"is this all true?" the girl glanced at jumin, but nonetheless nodded.
"it's true. but when i walked out no one was out there so i suspected jaehwa had already walked back inside." the cop nodded, now reaching to some other adults.
~ night ; outside ~
"it's not easy to say, but you might have to shut the school down for a bit," the officer sighed, wiping his hands on his pants.
"we will continue to search for clues and proceed to do the best we can." the two adults nod, the last of the adults leaving behind them.
"i do have a few nudges to who could've pushed the student down the stairs. someone with... envy or mad at them." the adults nodded again, the cop leaving them in peace.
"as a matter of discussion, i believe your daughter, the illegitimate one,
did it." yoonchul scoffed, not being able to believe what the woman had said."jaehwa? jaehwa has absolutely nothing to do with this. she has no ounce in her body that could possibly kill a person. she's a good person" yoonchul tried to convince himself that his daughter wasn't capable of this, but was it good enough?
the thought clouded his head. he knew that jaehwa wouldn't do any of this. she wasn't capable of it.
she wasn't capable of killing a person. jaehwa was the sweet, sometimes stubborn, kid who got good grades and always did good at school.
she was the kid who didn't run away, and saved a girl from a burning car.
she was the kid who saved ran into the middle of the road to make sure a kitten wouldn't get ran over.
she was the kid who, even with the worst people, tried to believe they were good. tried to change them for the better.
she was the kid who was able to fight her way to the top with no parental guidance, or no parents at all.
she was the kid who was left by her parents... for a daughter that wasn't even his.
yoonchul was confused. was this his fault? was rona dying his fault? was it his fault that his daughter went crazy and killed another kid?
no, it was impossible. he sighed, looking up from the ground. "i'm going to the hospital." cheon seojin inhaled in heavily, allowing the man to walk past.
she smirked, watching his body descend, "even if it wasn't her everyone will believe it was."
~ midnight ; seo household ~
"jaehwa you have to explain to me what happened. word for word." jaehwa pushed her bangs out of her face, staring right at Logan.
"jaehwa. like every time before, you aren't going to get in to trouble. you know i'll protect you. just tell me what happened with rona." jaehwa stayed silent, still trying to process it all.
who was Ms. Lim, and why did Joo Dan Tae call her that? The name seemed familiar, but she just couldn't put a finger on it.
"jaehwa." she sighed, a little annoyed at Logan.
"i'll tell you, but you tell me something first, okay?" logan nods, standing straight.
"who is ms. lim and are they related to me? please i need you to tell me the whole truth." she could clearly see Logan's shoulders tense, and the girl already knew she was in for a long story.
