You only wanted to be out for an hour and a half, but of course you lost track of time in the heat of the early afternoon. Your small work-out shifted into a complete training regiment. You couldn't help but constantly push yourself forward when it came to this part of your life; your desire for true strength. There's no such thing as "half-assing" anything when it came to you; you were either all or nothing. You warmed up, starting off stretching, and going for a run headed towards your gym, instead of driving like you usually would have. You spent 45 minutes working on circuit training, ripping right through what the machines had to offer you. You than shifted your focus towards the battle ropes as well as weight lifting; spending an additional half an hour there. Thirst dawned on your body, needing hydration. You chugged your entire bottle of water, refilling it, drinking almost all of the contents once more.
After using the rest room, you decided it was time to head to the Dojo, thinking you'd have enough time to spar if there were other students around. You enjoyed this time to yourself, breathing in the fresh air, feeling proud of your efforts, reflecting on your body, your life, your goals, your future. You've come such a long way from everything you went through, using every last bit of pain from your past to help you excel that much further. You felt gratitude, as you continued to jog, moments away from your destination.
You slowed your pace down, no sounds coming from the building which felt suspiciously odd. You came to a walk, your eyes fixated inside to see if anyone was there, if something was going on. You took a deep breath, the hairs on the back of your neck instantly standing up. You were quick to jump out of the way, turning your head and see who attacked you from behind.
"You're getting faster which each day my young disciple. But let's see if you've got the nerve to take me on." you realizing it was your Sensei, had challenged you all of a sudden. You smiled extremely wide, your desire to fight soaring.
You widened your legs, creating a powerful stance. Your personal journey and spiritual practice became ever so present by the way you carried yourself; the way you prepared to fight. You brought one fist up to shoulder height, keeping your other fist down by your lower torso.
"Don't say I took it easy on you, Sensei." you warned with a hint of thrill behind your voice.
He charged toward you, his body in perfect form, throwing kicks, punches and force; each of them, seconds after one another. He moved so quickly, a clear example of what you were working towards. You moved with ease and haste, sweeping your legs in order to hit his, making him lose his balance and fall for a moment. You smirked.
He immediately sprung back up, charging towards you again, striking while you managed to block his attacks."Why do you hold back with me "(Y/n)"? Why does the sense of insecurity linger as you block my attacks?" he demanded from you, his response taking you off guard.
He sprinted, getting behind you and placing your body in a lock. He just about knocked the air out of you when you tapped his arm, finally releasing you.
"What troubles your mind, my daughter?" he spoke, his eyes sincere.
"Sensei... it's not that I'm insecure, I just... I have so much contemplation and unease when my mind wanders. Could you please help me?"
He smiled, his right hand holding your cheek momentarily. This is what you pictured a father to be like. "Go on." he replied, as he slowly paced, giving you his undivided attention.
"I haven't decided if I want to use my training to carry out private career oriented missions, using my knowledge out in the world... or if I want to become a Sensei, much like you. To help those like me, in need of guidance, ready to truly experience what it means to live."
He examined the expression on your face. "There's more, am I correct?" he asked. He knew you so well, it was almost scary.
"I've also been pondering the thought of stepping away from Aikido and shifting my focus completely on Karate. But even than... I've grown a desire to learn how to use weaponry, to gain knowledge on the origin and spirit behind wielding such craftsmen ship. And would that mean I have to change my entire style of martial arts too-"
He cut you off.
"Listen to me. You must not overwhelm your body and spirit with such thoughts. These are all natural things to contemplate, you have such a brilliant mind and the soul of a leader. But you must not seek all of your answers at once, hoping the path presents itself because you will it to; your personal journey never stops, sometimes even taking your whole life to find yourself, to truly figure out what suits you in every sense you've ever dreamed of. I'm saying this to you not only as your Sensei... but as your father. Although you may not be my flesh and blood, you are my heart."
Tears flooded your eyes, his words were so powerful, it was as if they forced streams of salty liquid down both of your cheeks.
"You are strong "(Y/n)" never forget that. I think it's time you went out in the world a little, and find out for yourself what it is your soul is looking for. Experience is always a strength you can use to your advantage. I will always be here to help guide you, to train you, and to love you. You will always have a place here, no matter what, child."
You and your adoptive father hugged, him holding the back your head close to his chest, kissing the top of your head. He patted your shoulders, helping you stand upright. He smiled while he looked in your eyes, you smiling right back at him.
"I believe in you." he said for the last time, before you went on your way back home.
Something about your conversation with your Sensei took a huge weight off your shoulders, your chest not feeling so tight anymore. You felt so prideful knowing that you create your own fate, and that you have the power to be anything you set out to be. All you need now, is your own real life experiences, and to make your world so much bigger. As you had approached your apartment building, you wondered what time it was; the thought of what was in store for the rest of your night flooded your thoughts, the unknown making you anxious in anticipation. You practically ran to the elevator, eagerly pushing the button to your floor numerous times. You laughed, thinking you must have looked nuts if someone saw. But the truth being that's exactly how you felt; absolutely nuts just to see Mikey again.
