REAL LIFEnote: my fav chapter of all time
Avery wanted some alone time. She needed it to help herself process everything. Drew didn't want to talk to her. It was evident when he left her on read, not replying to her texts. She needed some fresh air so she left her apartment to go on a walk.
She had passed the Starbucks that she and Drew had gone to many times before when they often hung out together. Her fingers grazed the glass before turning around on her heel and walking away, down the street. There were too many memories around her.
Places where she and Drew laughed together, smiled together, and held one another. Feelings had flooded her like a tidal wave that she didn't really know what to do and that this would happen. She couldn't have predicted that she would fall for Drew Starkey and she couldn't have predicted that he would fall for her. Well, Madelyn insisted that she could have.
Her idea was to give him some space. That's most likely what he needed right now. She knew that Madelyn and Madison insisted on being pushy, and she knew that they only meant the best, but for once she went with her instincts. And now as a result, she had time to reflect over herself and her past decisions, which were not most of the logical ones.
Avery absolutely despised herself.
She walked along the concrete passing by shops that she had seen before. She heard music coming from one, realizing that it was the record shop that she and Drew had been to. Memories flooded her mind and she felt herself falter. He had held her here, his arms wrapped around her as they danced to the music. Strawberry Fields forever.
Avery felt her body drifting towards the store and before she even knew it, she was opening the door to the shop and feeling a sense of deja vu as the bell chimed. The record stop was still the same, small and quaint with many neon signs signaling the different genres of music. It just didn't feel the same, not with Drew upset at her.
She automatically went towards the Beatles section, instantly trying to find Strawberry Fields Forever, the song that she and Drew had danced to. She passed All You Need Is Love, Here Comes The Sun, Hey Jude, and many more, but she couldn't seem to find their song. Her breaths began to quicken as she went to the next box of vinyl records, sifting through them quickly until she realized the song was not here.
Avery rushed to the front where the woman was organizing her records. "Excuse me" Avery said, a panic in her voice as the lady turned to her, "Do you know where Strawberry Fields Forever is?"
The woman had a lazy smile on her face, adjusting her glasses as she squinted. "No ma'am, we just sold the last copy to a nice young man. You just missed him. Handsome one at that."
Avery nodded, "Do you know where he went?"
The woman shook her head, "I'm sorry, no I don't."
Her head sank and the lady noticed her disappointment. "But, I do remember he had brown hair, extremely tall, and a charming smile. Reminded me of my husband long ago."
Avery felt her heart give a tug for the woman. "Oh, I'm so sorry" she whispered.
The woman only chuckled, waving it off. "We had an amazing 53 years together, love you don't see very often. Hm, that reminds me of a couple that walked in about four weeks ago. So sweet, dancing to a song and so in love. I wonder if I'll ever see them again."
"Oh, really?" Avery asked.
Of course she knew the woman was speaking about her and Drew. It only made her heart ache when she thought of him. A wry smile made its way on Avery's face, a found look as she thought of the day she realized she was in love with Drew Starkey.
