rewrite of the normero scene in 3x09
"Im like totally screwed, how could you do that to me?!" Norma had yelled to Alex as she went through all the events she had been through with him in her head and she realized he had betrayed her, leaving her in shock. And he acted like he couldn't care less.
She couldn't look at him any longer and turned to leave heading for the still open door when she felt a pair of hands grab at her shoulders pulling her back and then he back was against the wall as Alex's desperate eyes connected with hers.
He couldn't stand it anymore. After hearing what Bob Paris had told him, the truth couldn't leave his mind. Alex had tried to get her to admit it once and he prayed she would just tell him, but a voice in his head had already told him that she wouldn't that night out on her porch.
He just had to try again. Alex wasn't sure if he wanted her to tell him so he could show her she could trust him and be there for her, or if he just wanted to hear her tell the truth, just one time.
Alex had his hands pressed against the wall blocking her in trying his best to confront her without touching her, knowing better.
"Why did you lie to me?" He started.
"I didn't LIE-" Her voice grew louder as she desperately tried to convince herself everything she said was true, but he already knew and immediately cut her off.
"Oh come on! You husband didn't die in an accident, you know it and I know it!" His words flew out fast as he kept pressing on waiting for her to cave, as they tried to yell over each other, thinking if they did, they were winning the argument.
"How did your husband die?" Alex asked again a little slower sounding like a broken record at this point hoping with every shred of his being she would stop all the lying, the games and just. Tell. The. Truth.
She stood there for a moment looking sad and angry at the same time staring at him knowing if she looked away it would be a dead giveaway even though she already knew he could see right through her.
But she kept it up once more pulling out one more lie.
"I did it. I killed him." She said with a straight face raising her voice trying so hard to convince him.
Alex was growing more frustrated every time she spoke and he hit the wall angry, but not hard enough to scare her.
"No, come on!" He yelled keeping eye contact with her still and she jumped right back in continuing on.
"He was abusive, and I hit him in the head with a blender and i dragged his body to the garage and I made it look like an accident." She said the words so fast trying to get it all out before he could get any word in as she still believed she could lie her way out of this.
"Just stop lying to me!" Alex yelled louder than ever but he didn't sound angry. He sounded hurt, like he was upset that she couldn't tell him. That she didn't trust him with the truth.
It hurt him.
Norma had finally caved. She broke down into tears that threatened to fall throughout their entire standoff.
"You know the truth, don't make me say it." She sobbed ducking her head to stare at the ground for a moment when a tsunami of rage washed over her and something possessed her briefly and she released her anger.
She slapped Alex as hard as she could with her right hand and the sound echoed through the house.
He was stunned at her strength and shocked she had hit him but he couldn't be angry at her for it either.
Norma pulled her hand back further like she was throwing a ball from far away trying to throw it as far as she could and she hit him again but she didn't stop this time and used every bit of strength she had in her.
"I hate you! I hate you!" She yelled so loud she could feel her throat hurting but she didn't care.
Alex took every hit and none of them really hurt him and that's when he had the realization. She wasn't hurting him, she was hurting herself with every slap and scream that rang out through the quiet house.
He didn't know what else to do, he didn't want to touch her without saying so but he had to make her stop before she seriously injured herself. Alex shut his eyes already hating himself for what he was about to do.
As soon as her right hand came to slap him again, he grabbed her wrist and she immediately tried with her left hand but he grabbed her left wrist also and worried she would resort to using her feet (as she most likely would just by knowing her) Alex pushed with a little much needed force, pinning her against the wall.
Norma let out one more cry as he couldn't bare to look at her face and kept his head by her right shoulder, still holding her in place waiting for her to calm down.
He felt her arms go limp, as she stopped trying to push his hands off of hers, and he let go. Her arms fell on his shoulders and she slowly took them away letting them fall by her side.
Alex moved his head from her shoulder and looked at her as they were less than inches apart from each other now. Closer than they'd ever been.
Alex cupped her cheek with one hand briefly thinking about kissing her and immediately pushed the thought away.
Normas breathing had settled a little letting out small sobs, still trying to compose herself when she leaned in even closer, her lips barely touching his as she kissed him softly and he didn't budge.
She went again, this time with more contact and Alex returned the kiss, feeling the way his lips moved on hers, letting her know how long he'd waited to do that.
They broke apart for a second before Norma had kissed him once more, this time reaching around his shoulders, pushing his jacket off.
She then moved her hands to his belt, quickly undoing the buckle and unbuttoning his pants.
Alex's clouded brain finally realized what she was trying to do and he broke apart from her lips looking at her as her eyes were focused on his bottom half.
He put his hands gently around her face trying to get her thinking rationally.
"Norma. Norma stop." Alex pleaded taking her wrists once more, not squeezing them enough to hurt her.
"Isn't this what you want?" She whispered trying to get her hands free. Looking at him as two tears fell from both her eyes.
"No. Not- not like this. It isn't right." He said back serious trying to keep her eyes to his.
"It isn't right, and you know it." He said again trying to stop her from doing something he knew wouldn't benefit either of them later.
"I want to." Norma stated reassuring him it was okay but he wouldn't go for it.
"I'm not worried about that. It's not right because you're upset and this isn't going to fix it. Now you know that whether you admit it or not." Alex said moving his hands to her palms holding them gently.
She pulled her hands out of his and walked away from him to his couch, flopping on it, letting out sobs she tried to keep quiet but it was no use.
Alex didn't know the right thing to do in the moment so he slid down the wall and sat on the hardwood floor staring at her and hating himself for hurting her, for telling her he didn't want to sleep with her. He knew it was the right thing to do then, but he couldn't stand the thought of her thinking he didn't want anything to do with her on those terms because he did, he wanted to so bad, but no way was he going to have sex with her after betraying her and making her face the truth about her husband.
No way.
After pondering his thoughts for about a minute, Alex sat up and walked to the couch and sat next to her.
"I'm so- so sorry Norma. I just did what I thought was right. I didn't mean to hurt you, and I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." Alex let the words hang in the air, waiting for a response from her, but she didn't say a word. She just continued her silent sobs.
Suddenly she reached for his hand with her right hand, using the left to hide her face as she cried. She squeezed it, accepting his apology and he squeezed back.
And with that, Norma stood up, unable to look at him, and walked out the door to her car.
Alex didn't stop his gaze from her until her car was out of sight.
He'd never tell her but after she left, he threw anything in his vicinity around him angry with himself for the emotional number he'd just done on her. He cleaned it all up the next day and replaced anything that was broken like it had never happened.
