Reki drew back. Pressing into his seat, he starred at the boy before him. Not human? What? His head spun with thoughts of what could be going on. Small bits from his dreams came back. Nothing about Langa not being human. Just what did he want him to become.
“Silence!” The Alpha prime cried out. All eighteen Alpha’s fell to their seat, instantly mute. The old man turned to Reki.
“What do you know of legends, my young friend?” The man asked. Lange relaxed slightly moving to sit beside his friend.
“They hold a basis in reality, but are over sensationalized.” He commented. “There is a vague rumor that an ancestor of mine could shape shift.” He smiled.
“Into what?” The man asked. Reki shrugged.
“It’s not true. No one could…”
“Shift.” Came the command. Reki found himself backing away from the table. Miya was pressed behind him. Twenty wolves now stood facing him. The snow white one inched forward. None came any closer than him. Langa’s mom stood amidst them. The old man now was a grizzled grey wolf hunched over and barely breathing.
“Do not fear, boys.” Mrs. Hasegawa stated. Her hand dropped to the head of the lone white wolf in front of her. His icy blue eyes watched Reki.
“Langa?” Reki asked. The wolf nodded its head. Reki moved up to it. The wolf pressed its cold wet nose into Reki’s hand. The boy giggled. He looked up. There was a deep brown wolf with a hint of green to its fur. Beside it was a soft grey wolf that had a touch of pink. The red and gold eyes of these two watched him. The brown one suddenly burst out into a soppy grin, tongue lolling out of its mouth. Reki laughed.
“Kojiro, Kaoru?” they bounced on their front paws as the boy stated their names. Unconsciously, Reki had been stroking the soft white fur of the wolf beside him. The dogs head came up to his chest.
“There are real shifters in this world, and all the legends where true once.” The woman smiled at him.
Langa shifted back. He slowly stood before Reki. “If you have shifter blood, it explains why you were chosen for me.” He smiled softly. He turned to look over the see of glowing g eyes. “They cannot change back until a prime alpha tells them too, since it was a primes order that made them shift.” Langa smiling turned to the human beside him.
“Shift.” There was and undertone to his voice, something Reki hadn’t heard before. Now standing beside him, he caught it. As one the room became dog free. All nineteen beings returned to being human. Miya gasped.
“But, the old man is still alive. You can’t be prime yet!” the boy cried out.
“I grow weaker every day.” The old man stated.
“He, is the other reason I have returned. I must take my place as leader of the clans.” Turning Langa looked to all of them. “I call for a vote. Those in favor of me offering my chosen mate and informed decision raise your hand.” Sixteen hands went into the air. There was a blonde woman and a blue haired male, that didn’t.
“Speak your minds.” Langa offered them.
“He isn’t one of us. I will never accept that thing as our leader. If you mate with it, the Shindo clan will succeed from the protection of the prime.” The man stated proudly. Langa’s hair fluttered as he bristled.
“The only way that will happen is a fight to the death.” The old man stated. He eyed the blue haired Alpha. Langa stiffened, but said nothing.
“So be it.” The man eyed the boy a smirk on his lips. The woman stepped forward. Langa’s eyes went to her. She had not given her consent either.
“I would like to know more about him first. Before I make a decision.” She stated.
“My name is Reki Kyan. My family lived on the island since it was discovered.” He stated.
“Kyan? As in Jiro Kyan?” the old man asked. Reki nodded.
“He was a few generations back. The last known shifter in my family.” He told them.
“Jiro Kyan was the last Alpha of the Kyan clan. He died defending our home and saving our Prime Alpha in order for the clans to live on.” The old man stated. “He was the first to mate with a human.” He added a bit unnecessarily. Glowing eye raked over the boy. There was whispering amongst the other Alpha’s.
“This changes nothing. I demand my fight with the prime Alpha!” the man from the Shindo clan yelled.
“Then you shall have it!” Suddenly the old man was in his wolf form. He dove at the younger Alpha, teeth bared.
“No the boy, the boy!” the man screamed stumbling backwards. The prime landed on his chest. Teeth at the man’s throat.
“My grandfather is still Prime until he dies.” Langa called out. The man was shaking under the glare of his prime alpha.
“I concede.” He cried out as a wet spot appeared around his groin area. His servant assisted him up as the wolf sauntered back to his spot. About halfway there he stumbled. Langa dashed forward. Wrapping his arms around the thin man, he helped him back to his seat. Langa turned to glare at the offending alpha.
“Even in his weakened state, he made you piss yourself. Why don’t you be excused to return to your clan.” Langa demanded. Head hung low, the man was escorted out.
“The Shindo clan, will be ranked lowest.” The old man stated. He turned to the female alpha who had held out. She bowed her head.
“Our clan has always been aligned with the Kyan’s. I concede to him being allowed to know what’s in store.” She bowed to the Alpha prime.
“Very well. Langa, you are charged with informing him.” The old man waved. “Dismissed.” He was escorted away. Most of the others left after talking to Langa. Kojiro and his mate stayed.
“We would like to assist you, prime.” Kojiro bowed his head to the boy.
“Thank you. Let’s go back to my place. I’m sure our snack is cold.”
“I own a restaurant in town. It’s not far. Allow me to cook for you.” Kojiro grinned. Langa turned to look over to where Reki and Miya stood with his mother.
“That would be nice, thank you.” Langa walked up to Reki. He repeated what Kojiro had offered.
“Um, sure.” Reki said. He exchanged a glance with Miya.
“You are more than welcome to continue with us.” Langa offered.
“Thank you.” Langa’s mother offered to drive them. They all got into her car. Soon they were pulling into an Italian restaurant called Sia la Luce. Kojiro seated them at a table. He hesitated briefly before kissing his mate and going to the kitchen along with Mrs. Hasegawa.
“Do you have any questions before we start?” Langa looked over to Reki.
“Kojiro stated he was an alpha to two packs. How does that work and what’s the difference between and alpha and a prime alpha?” Reki asked.
“I am the son of the last Alpha of the Sakurayashiki clan. I was born a beta. No Alpha’s were born into our clan before my father passed away. I mated with the Alpha of the Nanjo clan. Therefore, he took over the responsibilities of my clan. If or when an Alpha is born into the Sakurayashiki clan, Kojiro will hold his post until they become of age to accept the clan.” Kaoru explained.
“OK. So, then no Alpha’s were born into my great, great or whatever grandfather’s clan?” Reki asked.
“That is one possibility. It is also possible that since he chose to mate with a human and not the wolf mate the fates chose for him, the wolf in your clan died out.” Langa pondered. He sat thinking for a moment.
“A prime alpha is an alpha that controls all other alphas.” Kojiro said as he came back with some breadsticks. “Langa, here is the first Prime that has been born in two generations. We feared the old man would die before a prime came to be.” He smiled widely down at the teen.
“You came back because your dad died, and the pack needed you? What makes you think I am your mate?” Reki’s golden eyes searched Langa’s blues.
“Kid, if you had your wolf sense right now, you wouldn’t be asking that question.” Kojiro stated. Something dinged in the kitchen. He rushed out to see what it was.
“From the moment I became one with the wolf, I accepted what it had in store for me.” Langa began. “When I was five, I nearly died in an avalanche. It was the first time the wolf came out. It saved my life. Burrowing into the snow. It was there, I first met you.” He smiled at Reki. “I was scarred and alone. My dreams gave me hope. You waited there for me. Showing me your drawings and telling me about your day. I spent a week there before they were able to dig me out. Mom realized what had happened.” He smiled. Reki tried to remember the first time he had dreamed of the boy. Nothing came to mind.
“An alpha has above normal abilities. Some, well most can dream walk. It’s typical that they can only do so with people they have met in their lives. For Langa to dream of someone he hasn’t met, could only mean, you were destined to be together.” Kaoru explained. Reki nodded slowly.
His eyes flicked shyly towards Langa. “Just what all does it mean to be your mate?” He asked.
“We become partners in life, in overseeing the clan, we rule together.” Langa beamed. “I will protect you with my life!” He smiled happily at the boy. Kaoru’s hand folded over his on the table.
“You were young when you first met Langa in your dreams. That could have a profound affect on you.” He smiled. “I always knew I was attracted to men. Learning that my chosen mate was a male had no ill affect on me. You need to discover what attracts you.” His smile was light, cautionary.
“You become lovers, think of it as a marriage, with everything that comes with it.” Kaoru explained. Reki frowned as he thought about this. It had only been recently that he even thought about his sexuality.
For him it never mattered. Male or female, they were just friends to him. He had never been sexually attracted to anyone. Now he glanced towards Langa with his head down. The boy was pretty. Reki had noticed that. He realized suddenly that all his life he had subconsciously held everyone to the standard of this boy. No one came close. He smiled to himself.
“When do I have to decide?” He asked.
“Not until my eighteenth birthday. I cannot take control of the clan until then, grandfather is fighting to hold on, but if he passes before...” Langa’s voice trailed away as he glanced towards the kitchen Kojiro stood leaning against one side of the doorway, arms folded over his chest. Massive muscles bulging all over his arms.
“You have my vote, kid.” He smirked. Reki’s mind flashed back to the Alpha of the Shindo clan…
