Chapter 4

(Maggie)

She held Ace's head in her lap. She had called 911 and they were sending an ambulance over. There so much blood. "Please. Please be okay. Ace I can't be alone. Please don't leave me." She cried. The tears landing on his face and blood running. She fingered his hair. Holding him close.

(Ace)

He remembered hearing Maggie's voice as she called for help. But ghen he passed out. The world he was in was black. Pitch black. He could her the mumbling of voices but it wasn't clear enough to hear.

He could still feel the pain. Argh he was never going up against Pain again he had learned that lesson.

(Maggie)

Maggie stayed with him until they took him into the emergency room. Even when she lied and said she was family they refused to let her in. Kat came running through the door with a older looking couple behind her. The lady had white blond hair and the man was hidden beneath a hat and trench coat. Kat came and pulled her into a hug. And she returned the favor.

"What happened?" The blond woman asked.

Maggie shook her head and said, "I honestly don't know. I was coming home from shopping and saw him on the side walk."

"Miss Wayne? Mrs. Quinn?"

They both nodded and Maggie walked up to the doctor fear clouding her eyes.

"Your son is out of surgery. We were unable to save his right eye though. He will be permanently blind on his right side and whatever attacked him did some damage to his hearing on his right side, so far it's only temporary. You can all see him if you want. But remember that because of his injuries we had to put him in a medically induced coma."

Maggie nodded and was rushed by Ace's family. She slowly walked into the room and stood in the doorway. Ace's family surrounded him. She only had enough room to see his face. Maggie knew that Ace's safety, Ace himself had taken over her mind. Maggie's heart had fell to her stomach when she daw him lying covered in blood on the sidewalk. As soon as Ace woke up she waas going to tell him who she really was and who her father was. Sighing at the undeniable she spoke up, "Kat, Mrs. Quinn, Mr. Joker I need to be completely honest. My parents aren't villains..." taking a deep breath she continued, "My father is...He is...Batman."

She heard a gasp from Kat, a stare of shock from Harley Quinn, and a cold hand around her throat. She looked into the green brown eyes of the Joker. Her gut reaction was to tremble but she kept her clam and looked him back. Determination held her. A black gloved hand through Joker against the wall away from Maggie who coughed and gapsed for needed air.

"Don't ever touch my daughter again!" Batman growled.

Joker let out a maniacal laugh. Batman let him go kicked him in the gut and punched his jaw. Walking back to Maggie. Holding his hand out for her to come with him, Maggie shook her head no and said with a grave, cold, unwavering voice, "No dad I'm staying. I love Ace. And I will stay with him until he tells me to leave."

Batman held shock his face stern. "Don't bother coming back. Monday your brother will bring your things to the school."

Before she could respond her father was gone. Yes she yad seen him over react to things like this. Sooner or later he would come around.

And she would be waiting. "Why'd you do that?" Joker asked as Harley helped him. "Like I said before I love your son and there is nothing that would keep me from saving his life. Even if that meant ending the whole darned world!"

Maggie held her ground, she wasn't going to cower in the presence of the Joker. The Joker grabbed Harley Quinn and Kat dragging them with him.

She walked over and took Ace's cold, pale, hand rubbing her thumb over his hand in circles. Tears were now starting to come out of her eyes. "God Ace. Why the heck did you have to get hurt this bad. If you leave me so help me I'll drag you back myself. I love you."

Maggie looked at her hand that held him. He gently squeezed her hand she looked up hopping that he had awoken but he still laid there. His breathing easy she could see his eyes moving under his eyelids. Hope settled in her. He would come back to her. She just knew it. Sleepily she kissed his head and fell asleep in the chair that she was sitting in.
