Chapter 6 - "we were friends"

--Luhan--

I plopped myself down on the chair after Kai waving me to join in his table at the canteen. I guessed my face showed a weird look because someone- i still couldn't remember all their names- immediately shot "what happened to you? Not getting enough chocolates today?" I looked up and found out that it was the tall guy with elvish ears.

I snickered "i wish"

He knitted his thick eyebrows at my response "What do you mean?"

I shrugged at his question then turned my head to Kai "Hey kai, can i talk to you for a moment ?" Kai who was busy with his food then turned his attention to me.

"Ya! I just asked you a question!" The elf guy retorted

"Sure" Kai slowly got up from his chair and so did i after mouthing an apologise to the elf guy. We walked outside the canteen through a glass door to a wide grass field that i didn't even know it existed.

Kai leaded us to a secluded place away from other students. I had a feeling he might know what i wanted to talk about. He then turned his body around surprising me with his sudden movement. I managed to bump onto his body and fell straight on my butt. I heard him let out a light chuckle "thanks for the warning btw" i said sarcastically while getting up with his help.

"Sorry, didn't know you were following my butt that close" he joked. I fake laughed at that and he continued " what do you wanna ask anyway?"

"Oh yeah. Umm it's about Minseok..." He loudly sighed. I think he did it on purpose. I cleared my throat, continuing "some girl said that i should be careful when it comes to him. What does it mean?"

"What did you do that made her say that ?" He raised his eyebrows in a confused way

"Nothing..really. I just had a bad interaction with Minseok and she just came to me, saying that stuff"

"Bad interaction? Tell me what did you exactly do after i told you not to associate with him?" He said in a demanding tone.

"It's not that important. Just please tell me why i should be careful?" I said avoiding his question because he'd figure out that yesterday was all a lie if i answered it.

He rolled his eyes "finee. Let's start with the fact that Minseok and i used to be bestfriend. Until one day, his parents are no longer here, so he lived in a foster care for quite awhile before he was adopted soon enough. It was rough for him at that time, so he kind of distanced himself away from me, from all of his friends. Early in our freshman year, his step dad came to school uninvited. He came in a state of drunk, like really drunk that he started to shout and threw punches on minseok." He stopped, taking another deep breath before starting again "i got punched while protecting him, a lot. Then after lots of crazy shouts and fights, teachers finally came with securities and forcefully pulled his step father away. Minseok was crouching on the floor at that moment, unable to move."

He cleared his throat. And for a moment i saw a glister on his eyes before he turned his face away and growled. "Sorry. Just the thought of that moment make me sick."

"Umm..you know what, you don't have to tell me all of this. It's okay" i felt guilty making its way to my head.

"No. You need to know this" he looked at me making sure i was ready to hear more so i nodded. "So, i was about to help him stand up but he shoved my hands away and told me to go away. At first i didn't, i kept wanting to help him but he sat still. So finally i did, just because i knew he must be wanting to be alone at that time. I gave him his time and space."

"He didn't go to school for almost a week. No one heard from him. I got worried so i came to his house. When i came, Minseok was nowhere to be found. I waited for .. I don't know how long but when he finally came he's in a perfect condition with only the scars from that incident at school. A strange young man was with him. They look close and seemed to have fun beforehand."
He threw his hand in the air in frustration

"Seeing him like that, i wasn't sure whether i should be relieved or not. But a laugh from him at that time instantly triggered me so i raged out. I mean, how come he had fun while i was worrying sick about him?! And when i told him that, you know what he said?!" Kai's tone started to rise and his eyes bulged with rage. I shook my head in response

" 'Get lost'. He really said 'get lost' to me! I yelled at him saying reasonable stuffs and he punched me! He fckn punched me, luhan!! I lost control and we sort of fought. Long story short, i left. While he had so many wounds from me. I left. With my injuries from him. I left him, luhan." He stopped. Then he glared at me. I didn't know what he was trying to pull but no matter what he did or even what happened in the story, now i just couldn't see hate in his eyes. They were just worries and frustration. "Forever" he finally whispered with his eyes still glued on me but soon fell to the floor.

Hesitantly, i moved forward to hug him. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were such close friends"

'I also didn't know Minseok was like that too' i whispered to myself. No matter how you saw it, i could never imagine Minseok doing such things.

"No ono did"

"You guys need more time? The bell rang." A voice from behind surprised both of us that we pulled away in an instant. Kai walked past me quickly toward the sound as i turned away. It was the guy with the doe eyes. "Hyung, how long have you been here ?"

"Why? Does it matter?" He answered almost looked like he wasn't interested. Almost.

"No" kai's head lowered, so did his voice. I didn't know if it was correct, but i heard him whispered "sorry" so low that i was sure it was only meant for the other guy to hear.

'Are they....?" I brushed that thought away knowing it wasn't my business to deal with.

"Come on luhan. You'll be late" the doe eyed guy said while walking away with Kai following behind like a kid that just got busted.

"Yeah" i started following them then parted my way to my classroom.
