Ah, it's that time of year again. My birthday. And, as per my tradition, I have made some art to celebrate the occasion and share with ya'll.
Whenever this time of year comes around, I try to draw a character or two that had some kind of impact on me at some point since the last birthday. God, when did I start this tradition? Must've been 2017, but I feel like there would've been more b-day art if that was the case. The first was of Rae and BB, but I don't entirely remember if I ever posted that one. I think the next one I did, I drew King K Rool and Ridley since I had gotten Smash Bros Ultimate. Next was Helltaker's Malina I believe since Helltaker had become a bit of a sensation that year.
This year, well, it's probably not gonna surprise you guys that it would be a character from my latest craze. Crona of course.
Honestly, I don't know how I could've gone through the last year with Crona or Soul Eater in general. It's just had a profound effect on me, both in terms of my imagination and life in general. Whenever I can't seem to think or feel like drawing anything else, I find myself thinking and drawing Soul Eater a lot. It was no question for me that Crona would be this year's pick for my b-day art, especially since I had discovered them just a month after last year's birthday.
I did this year's art in digital instead of the usual traditional as a way to show that I can now say I've truly become confident in my ability to draw digitally as well as traditionally. Besides, drawing Crona in digital is always an experience of some kind every time. And I went out of my way to draw Ragnarok, Crona's weapon, in his full-fledged form instead of his chibi form like I usually draw him. And God, I can't stress how much I can't draw heavily muscled characters like him lol. Halfway through drawing him I was trying to find good refs to use for him and Crona and my brain finally realized I could just use the actual Soul Eater manga itself that I have been collecting recently.
Also, Rag's hands were a pain to get right, but that might have just been due to the boxed-in look I was going for this particular piece. And his muscles- oh lord. XD
Also, just like last year, I made some art for my buddy since I and he happen to share similar birthdates. He ultimately decided that I should draw a couple of the deity characters we have been making for that Deity Antics thing I mentioned. I and he happened to have similar ideas for deities and we put those ideas together for these two.
Asteria, the Deity of Space, and Galaxia, the Deity of the Stars. Asteria is one of the oldest of the deities and for good reason; she doesn't let the others push her around so easily. If anything, she makes sure she's the one demanding authority from the others. Not for selfish reasons, mind you, just that she knows her place in the world demands respect among the others, especially the younger deities. And Galaxia is Asteria's little niece, though with the way Asteria tends to Galaxia she might as well be her daughter. Galaxia is one of few deity children that live in the Higher Plane, and since she's in the care of Asteria, very few deities dare decide to mess with her lest they invoke the Scottish-accented wrath of the Deity of Space. You might not be able to see it clearly in the drawing but Galaxia also has actual stars in her eyes, which is a natural trait for the Deity of Stars. Oh, and Galaxia has an odd affinity for otters. Don't ask me why, no one knows either. XD
Remind me to share more of our deities some time, it's always fun talking about them and seeing what people think. ^^
Anyway, wish me a good b-day if you want to, happy birthday to Chaos, and I suppose I'll see ya'll around. Cheers. 🐉🎂
