"I understand you're a friend of theirs, correct?" Detective Kaiya (Homo sapien) asked. "Ye-yes, w-we lived together." Alex managed through sniffles.
"I see... May I ask how many others there are living with you?" Kaiya asked. "In-including me, there's s-six of us now..." Alex stuttered.
"I see..." Kaiya said, scribbling something down on a small notepad. "thank you. Is it alright if I ask just a few more questions Alex?" She continued. Alex nodded shakily.
After some time of questioning Alex got a police escort home and everyone in the house was notified of Banjo and Alejandra's passing.
"Alright, Alex, Harry, you may receive some calls from the police department in the near future just confirming some more details of the incident if you are able to provide them. Either that or they will be letting you know what we will be doing proceeding forward from this." Detective Kaiya explained. Harry and Alex nodded.
"Of course, we will help in any way we can detective. Thank you for all your help." Harry spoke. "You're absolutely welcome, and thank you Harry. I understand this isn't your first time dealing with something like this, I actually helped handle your late wife's case as well. If there's anything else we can do to help don't hesitate to let us know. I am very sorry for your loss." Kaiya said before shaking Harry's hand and taking her leave.
"I wanna play The Game." Brooklyn said bluntly. Everyone was currently sat in the loungeroom on the couches watching TV, trying to dull their emotions. Kazuichi embraced Alex, who was still trembling. Harry sat next to Frank and Jesse sat next to Brooklyn.
"Dude. Not the time." Frank said flatly.
"No! I wanna do something that'll make us feel better, instead of just sitting here feeling like sad sacks of shit!" Brooklyn borderline yelled. She was upset and frustrated, everyone was. "Brooklyn!" Jesse chimed in.
"No no, let's play it shall we. Perhaps it will lighten out moods." Harry said with and eerie air of tension. Frank gave a distressed huff and turned off the TV, everyone gathered around the coffee table in their usual spots and Harry got the game board out. A gaping hole stood out like a sore thumb where Banjo and Alejandra would usually sit... The circle quickly closed over that spot. "Banjo was the one that came up with this game." Kazuichi thoughtlessly blurted out.
"Dude?!" Frank retorted.
"Shit- sorry. My bad. Bad timing. Sorry." Kazuichi stammered. Alex's breath began to hitch again and Kazuichi attempted to soothe him by rubbing his arm affectionately.
"Brooklyn, you go first since you wanted to play so badly." Harry said not even looking at her, coming off a little more passive aggressively than he had intended.
"Fine!" Brooklyn snapped. She grabbed the dice and rolled it, she moved her piece the corresponding number of places and landed on the "tax haha" square.
"For fuck's sake." Brooklyn said angrily and threw three of her tokens at the tax pool in the centre of the board.
"You're the one that wanted to play this stupid game." Frank grumbled.
"It's not stupid!" Alex shouted.
"Everybody shut. Up. and stop bickering!" Harry yelled powerfully. No one had ever heard him yell before. "... it's your turn Frank." Harry muttered matter-of-factly. Frank made a face and snatched the dice and proceeded to roll it. Frank landed on "go back one" and after that "cross arms for 1 turn" then he realised no one was holding hands.
"Well the fuck do I do here then." Frank asked in a huff.
"Just-!" Harry started and took a deep breath. "Just skip a turn. I don't think the hand holding was particularly important anyway." Harry said, trying his best to remain calm and soft as usual. Frank grunted and murmured a "Fine." Harry calmly grabbed the dice and rolled them, landing on the same square as Brooklyn and placing three of his tokens in the centre of the board.
"Your turn Kazuichi." Harry spoke handing the dice to him.
"Mhm." Kazuichi took the dice from Harry and rolled it.
"K, I'm skipping too I guess." Kazuichi said dully, placing the dice in Alex's hand.
"... I don't wanna play..." Alex mumbled into Kazuichi's chest.
"What? Why not?" Kazuichi asked softly.
"I'm not in the mood man... read the room." Alex responded.
"Jeez okay... no need to be cold, we're just trying to help." Kazuichi muttered. Alex grunted in response. Kazuichi chucked the dice towards Jesse, she caught it and gave it a lazy roll.
"Three, which is actually two, which means I skip a turn. Just like always." Jesse said agitatedly, rolling her eyes, moving her playing piece and rolling to dice to Brooklyn.
"This isn't fun." Brooklyn stated grumpily.
"Yeah, no shit! two of our friends just fucking died, what did you expect? Did you think we'd just forget about it and play the funny money game like normal? Grow up Brooklyn." Frank yelled. "ENOUGH!" Harry boomed again. "If you people- no. you ANIMALS can't be civilised and play the goddamn game we may as well just. Give. Up." Harry stated. "Now. Are we going to play? Or are we going to argue like filthy animals again?"
"WE ARE ANIMALS HARRY! WE NEVER WERE AND NEVER WILL BE HUMANS!" Brooklyn shouted. "I'M TIRED OF THIS!"
"WELL TOO BAD! THIS IS HOW IT IS!" Harry shouted back.
"Guys! What the fuck? Calm down it's just a game, we can just play it later. How about we-" Kazuichi started.
"NO." Jesse shouted as she stood up. "HARRY. BROOKLYN. Get a hold of yourselves. Shut up, stop fighting, roll the dice." Jesse said finally, before sitting back down again. Everyone went quiet for a moment.
"You're right Jesse. I apologise for yelling, I lost my temper. Brooklyn, are you ok?" Harry spoke, more clamly.
"Yeah yeah whatever. Let's just play." Brooklyn said, feeling quite deflated.
They managed to get the game going with little more fighting. However the tension was still there, it never went away or got any lower. As soon as there was any kind of disagreement, in either trade, tax or even dice rolling it all started back up again. And then it happened. Brooklyn went feral.
"THAT'S IT I'VE FUCKING HAD IT, ENOUGH OF THIS, I'M GONNA RIP YOUR THROAT OUT YOU CHEATING ASSHOLE!" Brooklyn screamed, leaping at Frank.
"Oh yeah!? Go on! You don't have the balls bunny girl!" Frank shouted confidently.
Blood was drawn. Fights broke out. Almost all of them went feral. Harry cried in the corner. Kazuichi and Alex huddled together and panicked. Police sirens roared in the distance. It was all over.
Frank lay motionless and bleeding out on the floor, Brooklyn hyperventilating and covered in blood at his feet. Jesse sat perched on the couch behind Brooklyn, ready attack at any given moment. There was banging at the door, someone outside was shouting at them to open it, red and blue light flooded the room.
The door was barged through. Police rushed into the room. Everything was a blur.
