BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Kaiden pressed the snooze button and rolled over. He could sleep for a few more minutes, right? His eyes grew heavy again, and he drifted back to sleep. Ding! Went his phone. He grabbed his phone. The message was from his girlfriend Hazel. 'Kaiden, where are you? You promised you'd talk to me before school!' the message read.

Kaiden looked at the time. It was already 8:30?! Shit, how long had he slept. Kaiden blinked sleep out of his sapphire eyes, quickly brushed his black hair. He got dressed into his uniform and scarfed down a piece of toast, rushing out the door.

He ran all the way to his and Hazel's meeting point. She was already there, looking impatient. Her long blond hair trailed down her back, moving in the breeze. She fixed her green eyes on Kaiden. Her face broke into a weary smile. "I was beginning to think you would never come!" she exclaimed. Kaiden apologized, and they were on their way to school.

Hazel was the prettiest girl in school. Kaiden had once been a nobody, until he met her. She had been kind to him, and before he knew it, he was the most popular guy in school. He and her were the perfect couple. Nothing would ever come between us, Kaiden thought.

They arrived at school just in time. They took their seats. Kaiden felt his phone ding. 'Kaiden, I need to talk to you. It's important. Can you come over after school?' The message was from Hazel. Kaiden looked at her from across the classroom. He caught her eye and nodded. Something must have been on Hazel's mind. She had been acting a bit distant lately. Kaiden shrugged off the thought. We're perfect for each other, what ever it is, I'll help her through it, he thought.

What could Hazel want to talk about? He wondered. Then he remembered. Today was their one-year anniversary! He had forgotten. What could he do? Calm down Kaiden, he thought. He could stop by the jewellery store, and could make a bouquet of the roses in his garden. Yeah, he had time.

(After school)

Kaiden walked up Hazel's front path. He had the roses in his hands, and the bracelet was tucked in his pocket. The bracelet was made of silver, and had strands of silver twining around each other. Emeralds sparkled as he tilted the bracelet. The gemstones matched her eyes. Hazel would love it.

Kaiden opened the door. Hazel had said her parents weren't home, they were out shopping or something. He walked upstairs to Hazel's room. The door was ajar, and he pushed it open. "Happy anniversary!" He said. Kaiden froze. Hazel wasn't alone. She was kissing Percy, one of his best friends. The roses fell to the floor.

"Hazel..." Kaiden said. "What... is this what you wanted to talk about?" He began to shake. "Yeah, me and Percy have been in love for a while. Sorry not sorry." Hazel, smirking. "How could you?" Kaiden choked back a sob. "Can't deny love." Percy said, not an ounce of mercy in his voice.

Kaiden held back tears, but some still slipped out from his eyes. "Uughh, get out of my sight, you pathetic asshole." Percy said. Kaiden ran down the stairs, down the path. He ran all the way home. His parents weren't home, and he went straight up to his room. He collapsed on the floor, sobbing. How could they?

He cried and cried. Kaiden felt like he never wanted to get up. His heart was shattered into a million pieces. He sat there in his room, sobbing, for what seemed liked days. What good was a world where Hazel didn't love him? Hours later, he got up, wrote a note, and walked out of his house. His parents weren't home, but would see the note he left. The suicide note.

Kaiden walked towards the highway. The highway was always busy at this time. The evening trucks charged past. Kaiden looked up at the sky and walked out onto the road. The last thing he saw was a truck driver's horrified expression. Then, darkness.
