I run to my locker, suddenly realizing that the first bell was going to ring any minute. I unpack my backpack and race upstairs to homebase, slipping in my chair as soon as the bell rings. Whew. Just in time.
I hear the crackle if the intercom, and the announcements go on. "Good morning, Chase Middle School! Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance." We stand up, recite the Pledge, and sit down again. "All right! Today, Ms. Bambino and Mr. Lockman are not available. A happy birthday goes out to Tracy Gilmore, Daniel Williams, and Abigail... Adams?"
Oh my gosh. I can't believe it. The lady on the intercom is now laughing at my last name. LAUGHING! Argh!
Finally, she gets it together and finishes the announcements. "Well, have a great day!" Urgh. Why does my last name have to be Adams?
Anyway, homebase started and ended like it always does, and then we had 6 minutes to get to first period: math. My favorite subject. I rush to my locker and get all of my stuff for math until... I groan inwardly. Brianna again? This time she only has one friend with her.
"Your last name is Adams? Like, the Adams family? No wonder you're so weird!" she says. The friend giggles like crazy, and I'm speechless. Brianna sashays away, and then stops when she realizes her trusty companion isn't at her side. She says over her shoulder, "Come on, Giggles!" Immediately, her friend giggles like its hilarious and says on a kind of high voice, "Coming!" as she runs over to catch up with Brianna like a puppy dog. Ugh.
