WILLOW'S POV
I was alone in Charlie's room for a while before Alex's mom came in to check up on us. She explained the whole accident to me and basically said the same thing the doctor had told me just with more details. The boys had been crossing the street coming from the playground a few blocks from Alex's house when they were hit. The driver didn't even stop to check on them but luckily a few passersby were kind enough to call an ambulance. Charlie took the most brunt of the hit and Alex was hurt too but he would be going home the next day.
Beth blamed herself for not being there but I assured her that it wasn't her fault. The boys had been going to the playground by themselves and back since Charlie's birthday so it was no one's fault but the stupid reckless driver. The police were still looking for the perpetrator and were hoping Charlie would be able to give his statement as soon as he woke up. Alex had already given his but he wasn't much help.
Beth had to leave to go be with Alex so I was left alone again with my thoughts running wild. I was in a dilemma and I wasn't thinking straight because none of the ideas I was coming up with were valid enough to work. I needed to make sure that Charlie got that surgery because if I let this chance slip by me I would never be able to live with myself. There was a risk of him dying on that operating table but it was a risk I was willing to take. My brother was strong and would overcome the tribulation he was going through.
Jack arrived half an hour after Beth had left and I relayed everything the doctor had told me to him.
"You're doing the surgery right?"Jack asked when I got to that specific part.
"Of course I am. This is not how I had planned it but if I don't act now, Charlie will never have another chance."I replied.
"This kid is a champ, don't listen to those doctors about no damn odds, he will be okay."Jack assured me.
His words did little to comfort me but they still helped.
Jack sat on the other side of Charlie's bed and tried to cheer me up with a few funny stories. I appreciated what he was trying to do but it was really not what I needed.
"Can you stay with him for a while? I need to go home and get some documents the doctor needs."I requested getting up.
"Sure. I'll be here until you get back."Jack assured me.
"Thanks."
"Please get better. I love you."I whispered to Charlie as I kissed his forehead.
I left the room reluctantly but I knew that it needed to done. I glared at the male nurse on my way out who just looked confused at my hostility. I was normally a nice person but Charlie's accident had messed with my head and manners were the last thing on my mind.
I took the elevator to the ground floor and ran straight into Henry who was trying to get into one. Seeing him in the flesh after texting back and forth about Charlie's health ever since I got to the hospital had me breaking down. Henry caught me before I could fall and held me in his arms as I cried my heart out. He didn't say anything and he didn't need to. All I wanted was for him to hold me and give me his strength because I really needed it.
Henry walked me outside to the parking lot and helped me into the passenger seat of my truck after taking my keys from me. He got in the driver's seat, locked the truck and pulled me into his arms once again. I sat like a baby in his arms and cried my heart out until all that was left were hiccups and sniffles.
"A few weeks ago at the arcade Henry and I were debating on who the strongest superhero is and Henry said that he normally vouched for Iron man but deep down he believed that it's you. He explained further and said that you are the strongest, kindest and most hardworking person he knows . You take care of him, raise him, feed him and are more his mom that your real mother. He always wants to make you proud because no is greater in his eyes than you. I'm telling you this because no matter how bad it may seem right now, you have a young man in there who believes in you so much. He'll be okay because he will never want to disappoint you and you will have to stay strong for him because you are his hero."Henry whispered.
