Part 16

Ellie's pov:

I spent the majority of the past few days in the hospital with Nick. When I wasn't in the hospital I was with Gibbs or anyone else from the team. At the moment, Nick and I are playing monopoly on his hospital bed. "Ellie you got doubles, roll again." he said bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Oh okay." I said and I rolled a 7, which brought me to free parking. "Ha I landed on free parking."

He rolled his eyes as I grabbed the money from the middle and replaced it. He picked up the dice and rolled a 5 which brought him to jail. "Damn, you get free parking and now I have to sit in jail."

"Haha" I said to rub it in his face. On my first roll, I got a 4 and my second was a 6. Therefore I also had to go to jail. "Damn you Nick."

"Haha" he said mocking me. He picked up the dice and rolled a 10 which brought him to free parking. "Look Ellie now I got free parking." he said sticking his tongue out.

I came up with a great plan. "Hey Nick look outside." I said pointing to the window, and suprisingly he believed me. Then I flipped the board off the bed. He turned, startled by the noise. "Must've been a bird."

"Ellie I'm not that much of an idiot." he said and I laughed.

"Are you sure about that?" I replied with a bit of a smirk.

He then leaned in putting his face less than a few inches from mine, to the point where I could smell his tooth paste. I smiled a small smile at how close we were, he then returned the smile. "I think I would know." He replied then grabbed my face.

We kissed till we both pulled away gasping for air. Then the thought hit me, I have to back south in 4 days, a whole 4 states away. "Nick what are we doing?" I asked with a sigh.

"What do you mean?" he asked sitting back.

"I mean I still have to go back to Florida on Wednesday. We'll both be back to our normal lives, without each other. Regardless of if I want to visit or not, there won't even be much time for me to visit."

At first he has an emotionless frown then it changes to a smile. I stare at him confused. "Ellie I have an idea. I know how much you are enjoying it in Florida, and you like having your own team. Why don't I just transfer down there?" he says smiling, and I just stare at him in complete and utter shock.

"What?"

"You heard me, I could just transfer down there to be with you but still work for NCIS."

"Nick thats so much you have to give up. Gibbs, McGee, and all of them won't be just a phone call away anymore. You're giving up everything you're used to, all you're friends, your apartment, this wonderful DC climate..." I trailed off and he laughed. "Is it really worth it to give up everything just so that you're near me?"

"Ells you have been my best friend from almost the moment I met you and I've almost always see you as more than that too. After you left I was a mess, I'm sure Gibbs told you, but I didn't come to work for a week after you left, but finally McGee forced me. I could barely function and move on properly with my life. I can't let you go again, you mean to much to me." he said and I looked down and noticed his hand now on mine.

"If you want to transfer to be with me, that's your decision, but I'm not going to make you." I sigh and he pulls his hand away slowly.

"You want me to stay?" he asks but its more of a statement.

"I never said that. I just think you're giving up a lot." I admitted.

"Ellie I don't care." he said in a yell. "I just want to be with you, I don't care about what I'm giving up." He said turning angrier.

"Well if that's how you feel then I'd be glad to be with you." I say and we both lean in to kiss. The kiss feels different, even than the one we shared moments ago. It feels electrifying. I pull apart. "What does that make us then?"

"Well I want to be something,  Ellie how would you like to go out on a real date with me?" He says and I bust out laughing. He looks at me sad and skeptical.

"Sorry I didn't mean it like that, I'd love too. I'm just laughing over the fact it takes you multiple close to death experiences, and me leaving for a year, for you to actually make a move." He smiles but doesn't laugh like I am.

"Well like Fornell said 'if you wait too long to act on something, you may loose it.' He was right, but it just took me too long to understand." He said referring to when I talked to Fornell at Victoria's birthday last year.

"Hey speaking of Fornell, I know I missed Emily's graduation, but how was it and how is she?" I ask out of curiosity.

"The graduation was nice and she's doing fine. I got to meet her girlfriend at the graduation party-"

I cut him off. "Wait Emily's a lesbian?"

"Yeah, she never really came out to anyone besides Gibbs and her dad though. Her girlfriend was really nice, let me show you a picture." He said grabbing his phone off the bed stand. He took a few minutes scrolling through it. "Thats her. Her name is Aruna" he said showing me the picture.

Aruna was taller than Emily by at least a few inches, she had long wavy black hair  with a few pink strands. Her eyes were a deep grey-blue, and underneath them she has a few visible freckles. Her smile was huge as she held to Emily. She was stunning and seemed perfect for Emily. "Wow she's beautiful and they both seem so happy together."

"They were, it was so cute." he said with a pleasant smile.

"I bet"

"I have a question, have you talked to your family about what happened Wednesday?" he asks and I felt a sudden pang of guilt.

"Nick I haven't talk to my family since I moved to Florida." I replied looking down.

"why?"

"They never reached out and after they blamed me for what happened to my brothers, I didn't want to reach out." I said still looking down.

He reached out and lifted my face up. "Its okay, I completely understand, would you ever consider visiting them?"

I thought for a moment. "I guess."

"Okay bet"

"What?"

"I said okay." he replied but I knew what he said just didn't know what he meant. I stared at him skeptically and he just smiled.
