Niya sat criss-crossed on a burgundy patch of grass, eyes closed, fingers intertwined in a meditative pose. She took a deep breath in and let the air flow out from her lips.
"How does it feel to have lungs? I can't remember."
The Princess raised an annoyed eyebrow. "Shush."
"Why? You're just breathing!" Lady Ayata gestured to her. She was sitting in the same position across from her, only her body remained a translucent, iridescent crimson energy.
Niya sighed and opened her eyes to her Ancestor. "Has your hunger gone down?"
"You mean my bloodthirsty rampage?" Ayata looked over her nails. "Yes. I no longer crave the taste of despicable souls. But I still feel hunger for some reason."
Just then, the Princess' stomach growled. "Oh," she blushed. "I'm hungry."
"Please let me use your body to eat," she made puppy-dog eyes, pleading innocently.
Niya scratched her head. "Well... Okay. But only if you're not weird."
"Weird? I'm never weird," Ayata placed a hand on her chest.
The Princess gave her a look.
Ayata let out a breath. "You're no fun sometimes."
Niya stood and thought. "Maybe we should eat with everyone."
"Everyone?"
"You know, with our friends: Yucca, Roche, Bok, Marmie..."
Ayata stood as well. "With everything that happened, I don't think they would want to be your friend anymore," she replied, losing her joking tone.
Niya's eyes widened. "Do you really mean that?"
"Yes."
The Princess hung her head, kicking a pebble to the side. "Fine. I guess we can eat in my room. Go ahead and use my body."
Ayata furrowed her brows. She didn't mean to hurt her feelings, but every time she looked at the children's souls, she felt their fear towards them. Friendship was not built on fear.
After a moment, Ayata obliged and merged with Niya's body in order to attain a physical form. She sighed. "I'm sorry, Niyata. Don't suffer as I did."
With that, she flew off to the castle.

Ayata sat alone at Niya's desk, scooping food in her mouth while reading some books and looking at pictures. It was still strange having a physical body after so long, so she liked to stimulate all of her senses whenever she could. It was like being alive again, no matter how briefly.
There was a knock on the door that surprised her and made her choke on her food.
"Niya?" Yucca shyly called. "It's me. I get why you don't want to answer, so... I'll just talk, I guess."
Ayata managed to recover from choking and listened curiously.
"I was angry when you challenged me for the position of Captain," Yucca admitted. "Being Captain is all I have, but you have everything. You're the Princess, you have the Red Jewel, you awakened Great Ancestor, and everyone likes you... I'm so jealous of you."
Ayata slowly neared the door. Her eyes glowed a crimson iridescent as she stared at Yucca's soul.
"You're already so strong without Great Ancestor, so when she's here, I feel like the gap between has grown even more," she continued. "I'm older, so I should be stronger. But I guess strength isn't about age. You're special, and I respect you a lot. Without the title of Princess. So, I'd be sad if we weren't be friends anymore..."
