~~~~~~~~~ The Next Morning ~~~~~~~~~
"Can you believe it?!" Sasha squealed excitedly. "It's our last day as trainees! By this time tomorrow, we will be full-fledged members of the military!" She gushed, dancing around our room wearing only pants and a bra. I smiled at her enthusiasm while lacing my boots.
"I mean, it's just soooooo exciting! I can't beli-oof!"
She was cut off by Ymir lobbing a pillow across the room.
I winced, empathizing. Ymir had some serious upper-body strength.
"Get dressed you moron. The mess hall closes in ten minutes." Ymir crabbed.
Sasha perked up and scrambled to pull her shirt over her head. I snorted at her. Of course, when food is mentioned, Sasha becomes serious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

After breakfast, a group of us had gathered in the training yard.

"How big was his titan?"

"At least fifteen meters- it was massive! His eyes were all glowy and green!" Connie, Sasha's best friend, said animatedly.

"I thought you guys were supposed to keep quiet on this," One girl pointed out, folding her arms.

"We were," Jean said snootily, standing up. "But there's no way the higher-ups could keep this quiet- the only reason they made us swear to not say anything was so they could do damage control. They've already published an article to the public about it."

There were nods of assent throughout the group.

"Then where is Eren now? I mean...It's been three days and no one has seen him?" I demanded.

Jean raised his eyebrows at me but said nothing. Marco spoke up.

(A/n: Yes, Marco lives in this fanfic shut up I love him.)

"I heard he went into a coma and is being held in a basement somewhere until the higher-ups can figure out what to do with him."

"What do you mean, 'figure out what to do with him' ?" I said irritably. I knew what he meant- we talked about it last night. I don't know how to feel about it though. It irritated me that a group of lazy old men who did nothing but drink all day felt that they had a claim to Eren's life.

Marco and I talked a bit more as the group dwindled down. Armin and Mikasa- Eren's childhood friends- rode up on horses and joined our conversation. They both had come back from the trial and filled us in on what had happened.

"Hey, guys! How'd it go?" Marco smiles warmly at the approaching pair. Mikasa looked pissed about something, but neither of them looked devastated, so it was hard to gauge what happened.

"Yeah, how was the outcome?" I ask, somewhat nervously. Armin smiles.

"He's joining the scouts! He's a part of Captain Levi's squad, and he's even allowed to be part of the expedition next month! Captain Levi's squad is going to be one of the safest spots in the formation, so we shouldn't need to worry about him. Really, the Military police didn't even stand a chance- Eren is far too important to kill. Their argument was pretty weak- it was easy for commander Erwin and Captain Levi to convince the monarch. I mean-" Armin's rambling was cut off by an angry Mikasa.

"If we had a stronger argument, why did captain Levi feel the need to beat Eren?" Mikasa demanded. Marco and I stood in stunned silence.

"Captain Levi did it to prove a point- we've been over this. He needed to prove to the monarchy that Eren wouldn't be a threat. You understand that, right?" Armin answered gently. Mikasa let out a resigned sigh.

"Yeah, I just... I wish he could have done it some other way." She admits unhappily.

"So... what exactly did Captain Levi DO?" I asked, curious. Mikasa stiffened, clearly unwanting to re-live it.

"Well... Eren started yelling, and Captain Levi kicked him a couple of times. Eren was kneeling on the ground- they shackled him as a precaution, and, well, Captain Levi wanted to prove that he could put Eren in his place if things got bad..." Armin trailed off as Mikasa abruptly stormed away. None of us really knew what to say. We watched her get smaller in awkward silence.

"Should... Should we go after her?" I finally asked. Marco shrugged, but Armin shook his head.

"She just needs to let off some steam. She's upset that she wasn't able to protect Eren- she'll be ok once she sees Eren is alright." Armin explained. He knew her best so his analysis made sense.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

ok so I'm super sorry but I'm having major writer's block but I want to post something, so would it be ok if I just summarize this part?  I wish I could write it out because I had such high expectations for this part, but I'm just too stressed right now.

Armin & y/n talk a little bit more- Marco leaves to go see Jean, so it's just y/n and Armin talking. *eyebrow wiggles~* y/n goes to scratch her nose, and Armin sees a ring on her finger and asks her about it. You as the reader finds out that it's her sister's ring- the scene the last chapter, in the beginning, is actually a memory-turned-nightmare. Peony (the sister) is basically y/ns motivation to join the scouts and to keep living. I know it wasn't mentioned, but peony had a ring that she gave to y/n hours before she died. y/n promised to survive, even if peony died, so that's why she hasn't killed herself lol. It holds sentimental value (like Mikasa's scarf), so she wears it all the time.

in later chapters, I will address y/n and peony's relationship more and you will (hopefully) begin to understand and emphasize more since peony motivates y/n for pretty much everything and there's a lot of emotions swarming around y/n: y/n and peony had a horrible home life, and each other was the only good thing they had. So you can imagine the heartbreak y/n experienced when peony died. She didn't like the titans before, but now she hates them with a burning passion. She wants revenge because she feels lost: she promised Peony that she would survive, but for what?  She misses peony and hates that she can't be with her. She's not like Eren- she doesn't give a damn about freedom. She can't wait to die- she knows it's going to happen and that means she gets to see Peony in the afterlife. She dedicated herself to the scouts- it's been her goal to get revenge on as many titans as she can before she dies. I have a little one-shot explaining a few things that are going to be a little important in the plot later about how y/n actually joins the scouts and what she does in those two years that our golden trio is doing farm work.

The next month is preparation for the expedition outside the wall to establish a supply route to rebuild the wall. Y/n is paired with Armin and their job is to distribute the spare horses.

One other thing I forgot to mention- Before I get into the one-shot flashback: sawney and bean are found dead the next morning and Ymir and Sasha think its y/n at first so there's a slight confusion there but they all agree it wasn't (bc it actually wasn't) and she was with them all night.

I just really wanted to update since its been more than a month and I've had writers block and I literally cant sleep but I'm too tired to write so like whats going on???? anyways flashback in the next chapter and I'm drying for feedback so spam my comments please ill give u a kiss <3
