In August, after all the summer birthdays but before school started, Bucky and Steve decided to head for the beach. The weather was hot and humid, and Steve hoped that that meant that the normally chilly water would be refreshing. Especially since the heat made his guys cranky.
"But papa, why?" Oliver groaned in annoyance as Steve rubbed in the sunblock on the six year old.
"Because you don't want to get a sunburn," Steve answered, not stopping until he made sure that it was evenly spread along his freckled alabaster skin. "And sunburns hurt."
Oliver crossed his arms as he pouted, but Steve paid no attention to it. Just like how Sarah Rogers had done with him, Steve tried to save his sons from any and all sun damaged, and that meant sunblock. With the way that Oliver and Finn acted, Steve felt for his mother and wished that he had been easier for her at their ages.
"Vans all ready to go," Bucky announced, excitedly clapping his hands. A toothy grin was on his sun-kissed face as he asked the boys, "Who's excited for the beach?"
Immediately, the little boys started hopping up and down in their excitement as they cheered, "Me! I am!"
Shaking his head, Steve's own smile stayed on his face as he watched the little boys. Since their sunblock had been applied, Steve started putting on his own. Hoping that this summer he wouldn't get a sunburn. For whatever reason, Steve felt like no matter how much sunblock he rubbed into his skin or how often he applied it, it never seemed to be enough.
From the bouncer, Kit kicked his chubby legs in his excitement, and started gibbering, "ba-ba-ba."
"Are you excited too?" Bucky asked, picking the four month old out of the seat, "Yeah? Are you excited, sunshine?"
The baby continued talking and kicking his legs, even when Bucky settled him on his hip. Steve loved his happy baby so much, and he couldn't help but smile at the interaction. Especially when Finn and Ollie hopped over to the alpha. Oliver reached up and attempted to tickle the bottom of Kit's foot. Steve was sure that he wasn't actually tickling him, but with his big brother paying attention to him, his giggles continued.
Slinging the diaper bag over his shoulder, Steve decided, "Alright, let's go!"
Oliver and Finn pulled on their water shoes and Bucky buckled Kit in his car seat. As Bucky carried the car seat outside to the minivan, the boys chased after him. Steve going last and locking the door behind him. Even giving Greg a wave goodbye, that she, of course, ignored. Probably happy to have the house all to herself.
Bucky was buckling the boys in their car seats, so Steve went around to the back to double check that they had everything. Arm floaties for the older two: check. Cooler with water and juice boxes: check. Snacks: check. Inflatable seat for Atticus: check. Sunblock, goggles, and extra diapers: check, check, and check check.
Placing the diaper bag in the bag beside the cooler, Steve closed the trunk door. Exchanging a quick kiss with Bucky, Steve climbed into the passenger seat. All of them ready for a fun day at the beach to mark the end of summer vacation.
And with the special beach day, Steve let the boys listen to their Pinkfong CD. Even letting Baby Shark play on repeat. After all, it was related to the beach, even if they were going to a lake and not the –
"You missed our turn," Steve informed Bucky.
"No, I didn't," Bucky insisted.
