The harsh winter air bit at her exposed cheeks, her hands tightened around the weapon held tightly in her fist. She kept her breathing controlled, taking soundless steps towards the dark warehouse. She hated the familiar weight in her hands, and she loathed the sense of security it gave her.

Eyes sharp as an eagle, her body tense in alert as she entered the tenebrosity setting. A pit already forming in her stomach, none of this felt right. It shouldn't be this way, she shouldn't be here on behalf of that bald bastard. But here she was, walking away from the ashes of her dreams.

In the deathly silence, surrounded by darkness she saw it. His shadow on the dirty pavement, breaking the moonlight halo. In a moment, dread washed over her shouting at her to turn around and run, screaming for her to save her soul before it was too late.

With a slow roll of her shoulder-blades she struck the voice of her conscious down. It wasn't about her, she wasn't the victim of any crime. She was beyond saving now, the brunette waved her salvation goodbye and watched it drift away in the sky.

She wasn't a trained assassin, nor a skilled mercenary. But she lived with a soldier, a man with a war-ridden spirit willing to teach her whatever he knew. Her fingers moved the gun in her hand upward and pressed it firmly on the stranger's neck. Her fingers quickly turned the safety off, hovering one over the trigger.

He was much taller than her, even with her heeled combat boots he towered above her. The smell of his cologne however faint still reminded her of someone she used to know... and love. His tall posture took her back to the charming boy she lost years ago.

"Drop it."

Her low command rippled throughout the darkened quietude in the room. The unknown man moved one hand up and let the glock fall on the ground, she barely flinched at the shuddering sound it gave off and subtly brought her fingers closer to the army knife tucked in the inside of her thick black coat.

"Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?" Her authoritative tone triggered a response from the silent man, his body slowly turned around to face her. She wished she could see the oddly familiar stranger's face, so her mind would shut up already.
