It was a tall building, easily over ten stories high. The air was crisp and cool, fitting for a cloudy day. The cold bit at her ears, like a snide remark from people on the street. Was it always this gloomy in New England?

It wasn't like sunny California, full of palm trees and friends and family. It wasn't like Grandma's cooking and cousins' birthday parties and the spot by the ocean that nobody goes to so you can lie down on the sand and feel the breeze of the sea. California meant warm waters and trips to the beach. California was home. But this time she was alone in the hustle and bustle in the Northeast of the country, where people stared blankly ahead and pushed past you to get to their next appointment. Only the cloudy October sky kept her company.

She opened the sliding glass door. A woman that looked like she was in her late thirties or early forties smiled warmly. "Welcome to West Enterprise, how can I help you today?"

"U-um, I'm Delilah Sanchez and I'm here for my first day at work".

The woman pulled out a stack of papers and flipped through the pages. "Sanchez... Sanchez..." she mumbled as she looked for her name. "Sanchez!" She triumphantly yelled. "Wow you're early. Here, I'll show you around".

The woman led Delilah to the glass elevator. As they went up, she could see the people hurrying in down below. They were dressed like they meant business, literally. Delilah looked down at her own outfit, it was a yellow blouse, a brown skirt and a pair of black flats. She wore a pink sweater on top of all that. How are they gonna take me seriously? She wondered. How could I possibly fit in?

They went all the way to the top floor. When the sliding doors opened Delilah could see a sea of cubicles, a few people here and there  typing away at their keyboards. She kept her head down as they walked through the aisles. Some of them gave her a glance and went back to work. But most of the cubicles were empty.

"E-excuse me Ma'am, why are a lot of these empty?"

The woman laughed, "I mean, it's only 7:15, most people don't clock in until 9"

Delilah's ears started to burn with embarrassment. Of course, I came early. How can I be so stupid? she thought to herself.

"I-I'm sorry!" She blurted.

The woman turned to her. "Sorry for what?"

The woman's eyes burned into Delilah's. Her heart started to beat twice as fast.

"I mean, I'm sorry about what I said... I should've known why the place was empty, I did come really early..." she said with her eyes down.

"Well that's nothing to worry about anymore.
Here, let me show you to Mr. West."

They walked down a long hallway, where there was a door. "Fresh out of college?" The woman asked. Delilah nodded. "Yes, I'm from California" she said as she glanced at her name tag . Janet, her name was Janet. "Nice, my sister lives there!"

The woman knocked. "Yes, come in" a deep voice called from inside. She opened the door.

Behind a deep mahogany desk sat Alexander West, young entrepreneur and CEO for his banking company West Enterprise. Self made according to the company website, Delilah of course did her research. Alexander West was a tall man, towering over her and Janet. He had sandy blonde hair slicked back. His eyes were a stormy gray. And his face... his face boasted high cheekbones and a sharp jawline. Flawless and shaved clean. He was the type of person that really looked like a boss, a CEO of a multi-million company.

"Hello Mr. West, your new secretary has arrived."
