Amelia told her that it wasn't one of those fancy parties, so she didn't have to dress in a cocktail dress or anything. Something casual. Delilah looked at herself in the mirror, blushing like a tomato. The jeans she wore were not so tight, but it hugged her hips, making her thighs more defined. Same was for the pink turtleneck she had on, sometimes she wished her chest wasn't so big. She sighed, defeated, there were just things she couldn't change.
"Hi Delilah!" Jacob waved in the parking lot. "Get in before you freeze to death!" It had just snowed the other night before, and the air bit her cheeks. It was very cold.
Jacob's car was small and grayish blue with two seats in the back. When she got in, she felt a wave of warmth. She blushed, she had never been in Jacob's car before, and it was already embarrassing enough that he offered to drive her because she didn't have a car.
"Delilah, you don't have to stay in the back, you can stay in the front with me," Jacob chuckled. Flustered, Delilah closed the door of the back seat and got into the front passenger seat. She fidgeted in her seat, a burning sensation on her face worsening with every minute of the awkward silence.
"T-thank you for driving me..." Delilah mumbled.
"No problem at all! You gotta get out every once in a while, maybe you'll make some new friends there. I haven't really talked to Sue in a while, but she's one of Amelia's roommates and best friends..."
"O-oh... that's nice..."
Amelia opened the door. Her face was flushed red, she was very drunk.
"Jakey-poo!" She slurred, "come on in!" She was holding a bottle of vodka in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
"Hey Jacob, long time no see," another lady spoke. She had short blonde hair and wore a black shirt with a plaid skirt and fishnet stockings. Her makeup reminded Delilah of a cat.
"Oh hi, Sue, it's nice to see you again."
"Who's that with you?" Sue asked curiously, she gave Delilah a warm smile.
"This is Delilah, she moved here from California."
"Oh that's so nice!" Sue turned to Delilah, "how are the winters here?"
"I-it's very cold..."
Sue laughed. "It only gets colder from here, it's only the beginning of January! Feel free to have some drinks, I got pizza, wings and beer."
"Okay, thank you!"
"Jacob, why don't you bring any guy friends? Bringing a girl here, can it possibly be you being popular with the ladies?" Sue winked.
Jacob instantly became red, flustered. "N-no it's not like that, I-"
"Jacob is only friends with girls because he's gay!" Amelia laughed, the drink spilling from her cup.
"Is that true, Jacob?" Sue's eyes went wide.
"N-no! Amelia!" Jacob shifted uncomfortably.
"Admit it Jacob! You're. Gay," a sinister grin formed on Amelia's face. She then trapped Jacob's head in her arms, aggressively grinding her knuckles on his head.
"Amelia!"
"Don't worry about them, Delilah, they're always like that," Sue chuckled.
"Jacob," Amelia slurred as she pulled him into dance, "come on and have a drink."
"Amelia, I'm the designated driver."
"You're such a killjoy, why can't you have fun."
Delilah couldn't help but feel bad, but she was already being led to the center of the party. The music was loud and hurt her head. She could see Amelia and Jacob, as well as a lot of other people talking and dancing. She felt a burning sensation in her heart. But there was nothing she could do, so she played the role of the wallflower. She watched everyone's heads sway to the music.
