Evelyn
Mr. Carson's car is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. Amara is in the front seat, while I am in the back. When I glance into the rearview mirror, my heart skips a beat. He was looking right at me. He doesn't even look away when he notices me staring back at him. After a couple of seconds, he returns his focus to driving. Amara was on her phone, tapping the screen impulsively. Probably chatting with Brian. Only he could unveil this side of her.
Her brother shifts his gaze towards her.
"Is something wrong?" Mr. Carson furrowed his eyebrows. Amara glances at her brother in realization.
"It's nothing, brother. I think you should talk to our mother. She's worried about you. You didn't even inform her about your departure. At least let her know you're alive." Amara concluded with a tinge of sarcasm.
"Do not change the topic. And you must stop interacting with your mother while you're in the class. "Especially in my class," Mr. Carson replied firmly.
Your mother?
"I had to inform her of your arrival because she was constantly calling me. If you had completed the job beforehand, I would not have been distracted during class. It's entirely your fault." Amara exclaimed.
"I had my reasons not to tell anyone, and I'm not obliged to inform anyone about my actions," Mr. Carson remarked, annoyed. Amara rolled her eyes at his response and returned to scrolling her phone. There was quite a bit of tension in the car. My phone rang abruptly, breaking the silence. I silenced the call, grabbing the phone from the seat. Mr. Carson's gaze shifts to me again through the mirror. We make eye contact with each other.
"You can take the call, Miss __?" He dismissively asked for my full name.
"It's Garcia. "Evelyn García," I responded, not liking his tone.
"Alright, Miss Garcia, you are free to answer the call." He stated it nonchalantly.
"It's fine; nothing important. It's just my mother calling." I responded in the same manner as him. He raised his brow in amusement as he looked into the mirror. As I gaze closer at his lips, I see his faint stubble. His lips had the ideal amount of plumpness and a hint of crimson. He kept staring at me, and I was unable to pick out that distant emotion on his face. I looked away from the mirror, feeling nervous and almost intimidated.
As I see the surroundings of my home approaching, I ask Mr. Carson to pull over alongside the street. He brings the car to a stop and unlocks the door. I step out of the car and shut the door. To my amazement, Amara has also gotten out of the car. She leans towards the passenger window of the car.
"I'm planning to spend some time at Evelyn's. I'll get back home by dinner." She informs her brother.
"No, you're going to give me a call, and I'll pick you up." He stated not agreeing with what she had said. He then takes a final glimpse at me before the window shuts. He leaves after he makes sure we step on to the doorway"What's up with you and your brother? Why did you suddenly decide to hang out with me? I inquired meticulously.
"Did you not just see his behavior? He's quite adamant. Most of all, he acts as a parent to me. I just cannot stand a second parent figure telling me what to do and what not to do. I've had it with my parents already. On the other hand, starting tomorrow, I'll have to inform my brother of my whereabouts. So I simply want to spend some time with you, taking in my brother's so-called surprise." She sounded agitated.
"I get it." It can be annoying at times." I agree with her. We ascend the stairs to my room, and Amara settles into my bed with a thump. She is familiar with my home because this is not the first time we have spent time here. We continue chatting, and she tells me about having to move to this massive property with her brother and give up her freedom, referring to her dorm room life. She disliked the idea of living at the mansion with her brother since she was obliged to inform him about her whereabouts.
