Green had never really been one of my favorite colors even if my name was a shade of green, Sage. My name is Sage. I had just moved to Manhattan, and gotten an apartment with my parents on the top floor of the Cut Bank tower, when I noticed how corrupt the city had became. My parents and I hadn't lived in the city before and it was a totally new experience for all of us. And trust me what an experience it was!
"Sage! Sage! Your phones ringing honey!" My mothers curly blond hair flew around her head frantic to find me as I ran into the kitchen, her and my Dad always tried giving me the best they could. That's one of the reasons we moved to Manhattan.
"Hello?" I panted into my phone hoping that it was the library 5 blocks from here calling to accepting me for there open job. My dirty blond hair barley touching my shoulders.
"Hello, is this Sage James?" The old woman from the library that interviewed me was on the other end of the call.
"Yes Ma'am it is." I tried to contain my excitement hoping I would get the job.
"I'm sorry to say that we have found another person for the job you applied for." I could feel my grey eyes filling with tears. "You are a wonderful girl but we believe you have more potential than many at your age but we here at Alfred Hayes library don't think that potential is here. We are sorry." I was upset yet touched, I wanted the job but she was right I didn't really want to work at a library I just wanted a job. The tears no longer wanted to fall from my eyes and there was no need.
"Thank you for you honesty I appreciate it." I smiled into the phone no longer hurt over the job but somewhat disappointed I still wanted a job. I was only 16 it's not like it was permanent, and for a second I almost thought the woman had tricked me and I had fallen for her speech to all who applied, but I almost didn't care at least she called. I turned to see my parents smiling in the door way.
"Good luck dear, I hope you do great things in the world." She ended the call. I looked at my phone and put it down and looked up at my parents again. My father spoke up.
"We couldn't be more proud of you, you show more and more maturity everyday. The fact that others see how wonderful our daughter is makes us extremely proud!" I smiled and walked over to hug them. They knew non of this was easy for me and it wasn't for them either but I knew that. But nothing is ever as easy as it seems. Also I may be 16 but I wasn't like other teens, I loved my parents and loved being around them I craved there hugs, kisses, and love. I loved being wrapped in there arms. I never felt safer.
"Do you want to go get some New York style pizza? We've been here for what? 3 weeks and still haven't gotten any? My dads emotional side once again fleeing to hide it only came out on rare occasions. I giggled.
"Sure Dad... Your such a dork!" I got ready to go out and we decided to go to Antonio's Pizza which was 1 block down so we walked.
As we walked up to the pizzeria I saw a wanted sign hanging from the window and looked at my parents, eager and hopeful. They laughed at the fact that I was so willing and eager even after I had been declined for a job less than a hour ago.
"Go for it Sage!" My mother and father said together. As we walked the owner non other then Antonio himself smiled and ask how he could help us? After we ordered I asked him about the job opening, and he was very willing to show me everything I would have to do and after the pizza was out he talked to my dad as they quickly a made good friends. My parents paid the bill and just as we were leaving he said
"We open at 11:00, you think you can handle that?" I smiled
"Of coarse!" I looked at my parents and they both laughed. Antonio leaned against the counter
"See you next week that's when the old cashier is leaving."I couldn't have been happier. But then on the walk home, it changed into the worst night of my life.
