Chapter 3: Latamer

Four weeks earlier....

Alena and her squad was dropped off at the edge of a dead city in Houston Texas for another rescue mission to find more human children to round up back to the base. The trio jumped out of the helicopter and Alena leaded them inside the city limits. There was debris, destroyed buildings, abandoned cars and horrible destruction which made them emotional of how can a human child survive and hiding in a place like this.

"I wonder what this place looks like before the nuke." Mapel said.

"I bet it was beautiful and peaceful." Alena said.

"And humanity destroyed themselves and let their innocent children suffer." Said Sky

"That's what were here for, saving human children and raising them as our own." Alena said as the walked into a abandoned restaurant and was quiet and empty. Then, they noticed some nosies and footsteps and someone ran out the backdoor. Sky ran after the whoever it was through the back alley.

"Hey stop! We're here to help you!" Sky shouted.

The female child was terrified and kept running from her since she doesn't know what a furry is. Sky was faster and pulled her into her arms and tries to tired her out and calm her down.

"Hey. Hey its okay. We're here to help you. Just relax." Sky said as she comforts the child.

"Commander, we found a small female child, this location is confirmed of human children, permission to send more patrols in this dead city." Alena said through her radio.

"Copy that sending more back up." Said the commander.

More furry soldiers were sent and patrolled many different places in the dead city, and they found more human kids and was shocking that they found some human babies in a abandoned nursery still alive. Alena held a human baby skinny of showing bones and crying. Alena didn't hesitated and immediately gives the baby with some nutritional formula that she had for malnourished children. While all the furry soldiers loaded the children up in the vehicles and helicopters and headed back to the base. Alena, and her friends decided to look further into the last undiscovered corner of the city and kept looking for any more human children for hours.

It was getting dark soon and becoming night. They saw a apartment building not far and they headed inside. They split up and looked room after room and Mapel stops and leaned in the hallway  and lights up a cigar to take a small break until she heard a cough. She jumped and looked around deeper and heard a cough again from a room at the end of the hall. She slowing opens the door and sees a human male child laying on the floor and coughing up blood. Mapel puts out her cigar and runs to the child. He was wheezing coughing badly.

"Alena! Sky!" I found one and he needs medical attention!!!!" Mapel shouted as she opens her backpack and pulls out a mask connected to a small oxygen tank and puts it on the human child and turns the valve to help him breathe. Alena and Sky finally arrive and saw Mapel really emotional on the child and doing her best to help him breathe in a stable way. Mapel picked him up and they extracted back to the military base and Mapel ran inside with the child and hurried to the medical ward and screams at Dr. Kimberly for help.

Dr. Kimberly put him on the bed and got to work on him and told Mapel to go outside and wait and she hesitated until Alena pulled her out. Five hours have passed, Mapel waited in the hallway for Dr Kimberly to come out and she did.

"Mapel, this child will be alright, but he is infected by Ebola. Are you vaccinated from that infection?"

"Yes! Just let see him that he is okay." Mapel said as she went in.
