Leo stared at the girl holding a child in her arms, she talked about all this amazing stuff the camp offered – magic archery, pegasus riding, the lava wall, fighting monsters – but she showed no excitement, as if her mind were elsewhere.

The boy (Will) had left the moment she appeared claiming she was the better tour guide and although he had this beautiful visual in front of him, her tour sucked massively. She pointed out the open-air dining pavilion that overlooked Long Island Sound. (Yes, Long Island, New York; they'd travelled that far on the chariot.) Elena (the black haired golden-eyed girl) explained how Camp Half-Blood was mostly a summer camp, but some kids stayed here year-round, and they'd added so many campers it was always crowded now, even in winter. A million questions bubbled in his head, but given Elena's mood he decided to keep quiet.

As they climbed a hill at the edge of camp, Leo turned and got an amazing view of the valley – a big stretch of woods to the northwest, a beautiful beach, the creek, the canoe lake, lush green fields and the whole layout of the cabins – a bizarre assortment of buildings arranged like a Greek omega, Ω, with a loop of cabins around a central green, and two wings sticking out of the bottom on either side. He counted twenty cabins in all. One glowed golden, another silver. One had grass on the roof. Another was bright red with barbed-wire trenches. One cabin was black with fiery green torches out front.

"That one there," she said pointing to the black cabin, "Is the one I stay in. Though I suppose I'll have to move."

Leo heard a hint of sorrow in her voice but decided not to ask.

Instead he said, " That's a cute baby, is the father anyone I met earlier today. He looks kinda like Will" this was the wrong thing to say apparently.

"Wha- what? No, this is my-my are suggesting that-that Will and I... He's a kid!!!" her face went red and she stammered angrily. Leo wanted to slap himself, first day and he already offended the girl who was giving him a tour. "So... Umm. Who's your godly parent?"

This was also a bad thing to say apparently judging by now quickly her expression hardened.

"Thanatos although he hasn't claimed me yet, Gods are supposed to claim you when you're thirteen but I haven't been claimed yet. That was the deal."

"The deal?"

"They made a promise last summer ... well, long story ... but they promised not to ignore their demigod children any more, to claim them by the time they turn thirteen. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but you saw how fast you were claimed once you got here."

"So do you ever talk to him?"

"No."

"But he's your father."

"I'm the child of Thanatos. I'm not exactly dying to meet him."

"Why thirteen?" Leo said changing the subject again.
