After Father Christmas had left them with their new found gifts the group continued on their journey, but everything had started to get warmer. They could feel the snow melting from the trees and dropping onto their faces.
"It's so much warmer now I don't understand it!" The beavers glanced at each other worriedly and then back to the kids.
"With it warming up, there might not be any ice left.." Mrs. Beaver said in a small voice, the group sighed. They came up to a mountain ridge and it showed the river breaking off into pieces they glanced at each other with worried expressions. They found a mountain trail that led down to the river, and the group broke out into panic when they heard the wolves howl.
"We got to get down there, and fast!" Peter grabbed Lucy and started pulling her along.
" Don't beaver's make dams?" Lucy asked looking over to Beaver and he looked at her wide=eyed.
"I'm not that fast!"
"Come on!" They all quickly but carefully made their way down the slow, the howling of the wolves coming closer.
"Wait! Will you think about this for a minute?" Susan screamed and Arabella couldn't help but glare at her.
"We don't have a minute Susan, and if you really don't feel like being the wolves next meal I'd hurry up." She gritted out between her teeth and jumped down from the ledge landing on her balls of her feet.
"I'm just trying to be realistic." She said off handily watching Arabella disappear. They got the edge of the river and the three's eyes widened hearing the cracks from the ice breaking off and flowing down the river.
Arabella took a step and the ice moved underneath her causing water to fly up and hit her in the face, she heard Lucy's gasp and whimper of fright.
"Wait. Maybe I should go first." Beaver said looking back to the group holding out his paws. He slowly moved onto the ice using his tail and paws to check the strength of the ice.
"You've been sneaking second helpings, haven't you?" Mrs. Beaver called out to him.
"Well, you never know which meal's gonna be your last. Especially with your cooking." He slightly chuckled and moved out halfway to the river now, having the rest of them follow slowly. But as they continued the river started breaking off more and cracking under there feet.
"If mum knew what we were doing.." Susan said glaring at the back of Peter's head.
"Well your mum isn't here right now, is she?" Arabella said following Beaver more closely, icicles started dropping from the waterfall and they looked up to see the wolves running across it.
"Oh no!" Lucy cried and Peter groaned while starting to run and dragging them.
"Run!" He shouted and Arabella growled looking at the wolves who were now waiting on either side of the river. She took a protective stance in front of the whole group hissing at the wolves while Beaver swiped at one of them with his paws.
Peter drew his sword and tried moving to the front of the group and Maugrim laughed stepping towards them.
"Put that down, boy. Someone could get hurt."
"Don't worry about me! Run him through!" Beaver screamed as one of the wolves held him down with their paws and Arabella's body started shimmering, the change taking over her,
"Leave now while you can, and your brother leaves with you."
Susan looked at Peter who was still pointing at the sword at the wolf. "Stop, Peter! Maybe we should listen to him!"
The ice started breaking down more and more, and Arabella finally changed into her lion form pacing back and forth, Maugrim oblivious to her.
Susan screamed at him. "Look, just because some man in a red suit hands you a sword, it doens't make you a hero! Just drop it!"
"What's it going to be son of Adam? I won't wait forever, neither will the river."
All of a sudden a huge rumbling caused them to look up and the waterfall started cracking down and the thing exploded. Arabella taking her chance, lunged at the wolf pinning him down and Peter took his sword and plunged it into the ice breaking it off from the river.
Beaver was released and swam towards the group of kids, while Arabella fought off the wolves slashing into their sides with her paws. The waterfall exploded into a wall of water and Arabella took her chance and jumped into the water while Peter, Susan, Lucy, and the beavers floated down the river on the ice chunk.
The rapids of the river jostled the ice and Arabella watched as Lucy fell off into the water, while the rest of the group struggled to stay on. Her form changed as she swam towards Lucy and grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her off to shore to keep them from being taken down by the current.
Not too far away Arabella could here Peter and Susan screaming at each other for loosing Lucy and not knowing where she was. Lucy followed the screaming voices and looked between the two, her wet form shivering.
"Has anyone seen my coat?"
