"Unrequited love does not die. It's only beaten down to a secret place where it hides curled and wounded." ~Elle Newmark
★It was a fact universally acknowledged that Daisy Atkins was in love with her best friend, Ronnie Coleman. Unfortunately for Daisy, Ronnie seemed to love everyone else but her. He had failed to take the copious hints Daisy had been dropping for the past year ever since she had figured out that she had feelings for her best friend.
Now Daisy wished that things could go back to how they were when they were younger. When she didn't shudder whenever Ronnie hugged or touched her, when she didn't get lost in Ronnie's steely grey eyes whenever he talked and when she didn't burn with jealousy everytime Ronnie fucked other women. This, however, was exactly what she was doing now at three in the morning.
Daisy sat in the driver's seat of her new red Toyota Camry that was parked next to a creepy sprawling forest. Daisy was trying in vain to ignore the cacophony of moans and groans that wafted off the back seat. Ronnie was fucking his new whore of the week while Daisy was trying her best not to cry.
"Ohhh fuck Ray." The bimbo moaned and a new wave of tears stung Daisy's rocky brown eyes. She didn't even know Ronnie's name and yet she was the one who got to have him. How unfair could the world be to her? It had already taken her brother and mother in a fatal accident that had left her father comatose two years ago and now it wanted to take her love away too?
"I love you so much Natasha." Ronnie moaned and Daisy sniffled. Her grip on the steering wheel became punishing. She coughed to cover up the tears that now streaked her cheeks. How useless could she get?
It seems they were done because her ears were no longer being assaulted by their moans and purrs. She made the mistake of turning her head to check and what she saw broke her heart into a million little pieces. All her hopes for a picture perfect life with Ronnie Coleman were dashed. No more plans for a puffy wedding dress and certainly no more white picket fence with three adorable little kids.
Daisy stared in mute horror at the light reflecting off of Ronnie's class ring on that whore's finger. Daisy's mind was already conjuring up psychopathic thoughts. She was now considering how easy it was to hide two bodies in the sprawling forest. It would be the perfect crime. No witnesses and no prints. The forest would be her accomplice. She would do it right and no one would be the wiser.
Daisy tried to think of the bright side before she ended up savouring the screams of her best friend and his new lover. This was the eye opener that she needed to finally focus on college. She would study hard and become the most successful lawyer the state of Boston had ever seen. Daisy would be the next Marcie Diggs. She had learnt her lesson. Love only brought pain.
Daisy still wanted to scream. "Oh fuck it." She muttered and pushed open the car door and took off at a brisk pace towards the sprawling forest. Against her better judgement, she entered deeper into the said forest and ignored Ronnie's frantic calls. Her love was unrequited and she knew when she was not wanted.
The cacophony of chirping crickets and croaking frogs was a welcome respite from the sounds of Ronnie's incessant moans. The sky was falling in a gentle mist and this helped in concealing the tears that were flowing down her cheeks unchecked. Why was she so fucking unlucky? Her six inch heels kept sinking in the soggy soils of the forest and she decided to remove them and hold them in her hands. Her pink shirt stuck to her body like a second skin and her skirt was dripping water down her legs but she soldiered on. She would do anything to get away from Ronnie who was now gaining on her.
Daisy's teeth chattered when the autumn winds blew against her petite frame and she instantly regretted her choice of clothing. She had literally thrown whatever she could find in the dark of her room and escaped the safety of her aunt's house when Ronnie had called. What a fool she had been! Now here she was sauntering around barefoot in a forest like a lioness.
