Wang Yibo's POV
"CUPCAKE, COME HERE, LOOK!" I waved exuberantly while Haoxuan smacked my head as I laughed, watching my lovely cupcake running towards me with open arms.
"I still don't understand why he likes you." Haoxuan groaned as he shook his head, and I winked at him, catching my loveliest cupcake with open arms in a tight embrace.
"I love you," he whispered the words in the crook of my neck as I just held him tightly, his beating hard against mine, and I closed my eyes.
"If anyone is interested, I am leaving." My eyes shot open, and Xiao Zhan giggled giddily, holding onto my neck as I let him stand on his feet again.
Before I could say anything more, Haoxuan disappeared between the trees, and it was only my bunny and me.
A strand of moonlight lit his face, and he looked like a fairy or an angel.
"Why did you took me here, Yibo?" He yawned, his almond eyes wrinkling a little as he smiled at me.
Without a word, I took his hand and dragged him with me, and we walked for some time in silence as we reached the place.
Fireflies were enlightening the place together with the moon as I glanced sideways at my candy boy; his eyes had widened as his mouth fell open.
"OMG!" And gone Xiao Zhan was.
I let my head fall a bit backwards, an unstoppable laugh escaping my mouth as I saw how Xiao Zhan ran towards the pond of glowing water like a kid seeing a new toy.
"YIBO, COME HERE!" I quickly ran towards him and crouched down next to my sweetest baby as he stretched his hand out.
"Watch out, Zhan!" He turned around to me, eyes big as I gave him a push, and he tumbled backwards into the sea of glowing water.
For a second, Zhan's head went underwater before he appeared, a pout on his lips and his body soaked, "Bo ge is so mean~ What if I drowned?"
"Bao Bao, I know every pond and path here; this water won't drown you, don't be so dramatic." Xiao Zhan stretched his hand out to me with a pout adorning his lips as I took his hand, not expecting the force he would use to get me to tumble into the water.
Quickly I got my head above water to take big gulps of air, hearing Zhan laugh beside me, "now you know what I felt!"
I smiled softly, hugging my boa bao from the back as he stiffened but relaxed within a few seconds, the water around us glowing, and for a second, I heard Xiao Zhan gasp.
"You can never get enough of the mysteries for this forest, can you?" Xiao Zhan shook his head, splashing the cold water against my face before swimming away, screaming, "chase me if you can!"
With a big gulp of air, I dived and swum after Xiao Zhan, who I soon enough caught up with, and I held him by his ankle so he couldn't swim away again.
My golden boy tried splashing water on my face in the hope that I would let go, but instead, I leaned forwards, stealing a kiss.
When our lips parted, he kept hitting my chest like a child who was mad for not getting his toy as a pout was tugging at his lips.
"You're so mean, Bo ge!" I ruffled Zhan's hair as I laughed.
"This pond is so beautiful; the water it's glowing, right?" I frowned.
"The water is glowing; it's giving light off! Yibo! Don't tell me you can't see it?" My frown deepened as I saw worry shimmering in Zhan's eyes before bursting out in a laugh and letting my body float on the water, my eyes directed to the moon that had followed my journey for a long time.
"Bo ge! You're so mean; I really, for a second thought, I went delusional or crazy! Thanks to you!" Without looking beside me, I knew my bunny was huffing and pouting again.
"It's so magical, the water, the ambience it gives off, the glow, and I can't believe I am bathing in glowing water! My granny once told me when I was younger about it, but I thought it was fairytales!" I didn't answer.
"Bunny, in every fairytale, there is a twist of the truth; no matter how small it is, it is there, so I am sure your granny was a wise person."
"I miss her." It was so soft that I almost missed it, and when I turned beside me, I saw Zhan looking at the sky at the stars and the dazzling moon.
"She once told me that every star represents a person." I placed my chin on Zhan's shoulder, looking up to the sky.
"She's among one of those stars, and she's watching you, Zhan." I let silence before asking my next question, "do you regret it?"
A sigh was all I received before Zhan turned around.
"No, I don't regret my choice; there was nothing left there, my parents abused me, my granny passed, and darkness was my best friend. If I could get back in time, I wouldn't change anything; I got assured of that."
"Xiao Zhan." I felt him hold his breath as I continued, "you remind me of a firefly."
His eyes widened, but he didn't say a word, "Fireflies symbolism brings magic and a sense of childlike wonder into our often chaotic and busy lives. Their presence got meant to bring back nostalgic memories of youth and innocence when the world was a magical dreamland, and nothing was outside the realm of possibility. And you're my firefly, my light through the darkness."
"I love you, Yibo."
"I love you too, Xiao Zhan."
