Skyler's P.O.V
I rode down the forest path on my horse, Storm. She was a beautiful grey horse. My boyfriend Kyren was riding his horse, Raven, who was jet black. Kyren's friend Callum was riding a painted horse named Domino, and my best friend Faye was also with us riding her golden brown horse, Autumn. Twice a week my father allows me to go and ride with them, and it's the best time of my life. No guards, no court meetings, and no responsibilities.
In case you haven't guessed, I'm the princess. Princess Skyler of Eldoro. Everything has been non-stop for me recently, you see, my 20th birthday is coming in a few months and that means I'll be old enough to inherit my fathers throne. It's a lot to take on, but I'm excited for the chance to rule my kingdom the way I believe it should be run.
"Skyler!" I turned around and realized I had gotten ahead of my friends.
"Oh, sorry guys."
"It's alright, just try to stay close. After all, we only have Kyren and Callum to protect you."
Faye is my lady in waiting and my best friend, and she is very protective of me.
"Hey, we could fend off anything and anyone that tried to hurt Skyler."
Kyren always gets defensive when Faye makes remarks about his fighting skills.
"Sure you could." Faye rolled her eyes at him. As much as I love them both Faye and Kyren tend to bicker.
"Come on guys, no bickering."
They both looked at me and shrugged their shoulders, which was their way of saying we'll try but no promises. We continued down the trail when I heard thrashing in the forest up ahead.
"Guys stop for a sec..."
"What is it Skyler?"
"Shhh! Listen."
We all stopped and I heard it again but this time a scream followed. I looked over at my friends and without hesitation I jumped off of Storm and ran towards the noise.
"Skyler, wait!!"
I didn't even look back, I had to find whoever screamed. I ran through the forest and I came to a clearing near the bottom of a steep hill. There at the bottom, was a boy who seemed inches from death. I ran over and looked down at him, immediately I noticed his shoulder was badly injured, he must have fallen down the hill. Kyren, Callum, and Faye ran through the clearing and came over to us.
"Guys, he's hurt badly. We have to get him back to the castle."
"Okay, I'll get him."
"No Kyren, Storm is the fastest. I'll take him."
"Skyler, if you show up to the castle with him your dad is going to have a fit, at least if it's me, he won't ask questions until later."
"It has to be me, Storm won't let anyone else ride her, and the longer we debate this, the boy gets closer to death."
"Fine, go get Storm and I'll bring the boy over."
I nodded at him, and ran off to where our horses were, I climbed up on Storm and Kyren came out of the clearing with the boy in his arms. He brought him over and hoisted him up to me.
"Skyler, it looks like his side is bleeding as well."
"Don't worry, I'll be at the castle in no time. Let's go Storm."
Off I rode, with the boy in my lap. As I came through the palace gates, the guards alerted my father as they did everytime I came home. I stopped Storm at the front door of the castle, and got off and started carrying the boy inside, but my father opened the door and as Kyren predicted, stopped me.
