Liking You Is A Bright Idea

                           Dr. Bright POV

Kids aren't really my cup of tea.  And, despite what that joke file somebody wrote about me a couple months ago said, I CAN be within 30 feet of them.  I still don't know who did it, or why they think such awful things about me.  Would I go to a Renaissance fair with D-class in garb?  Yes, I would.  But I won't, because that would be an awful violation of secrecy, bringing convicted murderers and other horrific criminals to such a public place.

The only things that were true in that article was the one about me replacing the buckshot in Clef's gun with other things.  And the one about the chainsaw cannons.  In my defense, it worked against Able.  For a little while, until we could actually kill him, at least.   Fiddling with the amulet around my neck, I leave to go find some coffee.  As a Senior Researcher, I have a lot to do.  A couple experiments, a metric fuck ton of reports to write, and then I have to go get permission for my newest experiment idea.

The crop of Junior Researchers from two years ago are actually competent this time, which is great for me!  Dr. Sinclair shows some real promise, even if she does have a soft spot for
humanoid children.  I predict that she'll climb the ranks of this site quite quickly.  It does help that her prediction of Alita being downgraded to Euclid happened.

She's got some real talent when it comes to predicting danger and containment level, that's for sure.  Well, a toddler can't do much anyways.  But she knows a lot more about children than I do, so I'm letting her handle this.  Also, I do kind of maybe have a crush on her.  She's so pretty, and she's so kind and sweet, yet also cut from the special cloth required to work here.  What I thought was admiration for her work ethic and ability to tolerate kids turned to something more.

We don't have any new researchers, which is kind of good.  Training sucks, especially when the new people try to bring ethics into this.  Leave the ethics to the Ethics Committee, for the last fucking time! Anyway, I heard from the higher ups that some personnel will have to be transferred to Site 17 in the next four years. I hope it isn't me. Or anyone else I know, for that matter. Scheduling holiday parties across multiple sites is a HUGE hassle.

Meanwhile, it's smooth sailing right now. Able got killed last week, so he shouldn't regenerate for a while. And 682 is about as secure as we can get it, trapped in acid. I finally make my way into the break room, only to find a line of other people, waiting for coffee as well. "Morning!", a voice says from behind me. I turn around, to see the woman herself, Dr. Sinclair. "Good morning, Dr. Sinclair. I see you got an early start to today!", I reply, amazed she isn't still half asleep.

"Well, I like getting my work done now, when it's cooler out. Especially with the AC shutting down like it's been doing in the lab.", she comments. "Ugh, it's awful! I hope they get maintenance in on that!", another researcher adds. "Chill, I called them an hour ago. Unless they have something better to do, it should be getting fixed right now!", someone else says from higher in the coffee line. Soon, it's my turn to get my coffee, and I sit down with it at a table.

Pulling out some notes from my bag, I get to work. Only, these are the wrong notes. I guess I grabbed the file on Alita rather than my experiment notes. Well, if I leave now, someone else will take my spot, and reading is reading, I guess. Someone should probably update this. It's been like, a year now. She now walks, and talks, so we keep her in her cell usually. The last thing we need is her getting killed in a breach before we can even run any experiments on her. Reality anchors do work on her not teleporting away, so at least we can KEEP her in her cell.

Lucille walks up, taking the only remaining spot at the table, across from me. Come on, people! I'm not gonna possess you, and I didn't do all those things in the joke file! Why do they avoid me! Although, some things in that file I would absolutely do. Making puns with my name is something on my to-do list now. But not the disgusting things. Whoever wrote that needs to be demoted or something.
