Henley:
I open my eyes to a white ceiling. In the background I can hear a beeping sound. It takes me a couple of minutes to realize that someone is sitting in the chair next to my bed. It's Alex and he is asleep with his head laying on my hand.
"Alex," I say.
He stirs and wakes up. When he notices I am awake he goes on high alert.
"Your awake," he says.
I smile at him and say, "I missed you."
He frowns. "I thought I was going to lose you. You almost broke your promise."
"Well I didn't. I'm ok, promise," I tell him.
"Ok," he finally says.
Three weeks later I get out of the hospital and am medically discharged from the army with the Purple Heart.
Three years later
Henley:
Alex and I bought a house in a small neighborhood two years ago. We are both still just friends and are both happy. I opened my own doctors office for elderly people, while Alex became a helicopter pilot for the local hospital.
We have never been happier, then we are now.
