"C'mon Alec! Come with us! Don't tell me your afraid?" Isabelle said teasing Alec.
"I'm not afraid! It just looks damp and dusty in there and I don't want to get my clothes dirty." Alec replied stiffly.
"Come on Alec it might be cool." Jace smirked.
"Fine."
"Great! Let's explore the, oh so dirty crypt. " Isabelle said running into the crypt.
The two boys ran after Isabelle into the dark and gloomy crypt. The crypt where Jace would do something that could change the whole Shadow World. The crypt that would change it all.
"Izzy, slow down!" Alec yelled.
"Go faster." She said, but she slowed down anyway.
The crypt was beautiful, the gloominess added to the beauty of the crypt. It had a haunted beauty. The ceilings were high and arched. The ground was made up of cobblestone and there were beautiful statues of the faye.
"Wait, you guys! Stop!" Isabelle yelled.
"What is it?" Jace asked irritated.
"There's holding runes on the wall here."
"Damn." Jace said after taking a close look at it.
"Who ever put these here, used a really glamour...We should go in."
"It could be holding a demon or a psychotic downworlder." Alec said.
"Well, we have weapons, don't we?" Jace said with a grin.
"We don't even know how to get in. We should just leave it alone." Isabelle said nervously.
"I'm getting bad vibe from this place."
"Same." Alec said looking worried.
Jace stayed silent, deep in thought. He traced the runes with his finger for a few seconds. Finally he stopped and took his stele out. He put it to the wall and traced the runes with his stele, instead of his finger. He traced each one and when he finished, the runes started glowing blue. The wall moved aside, revealing a long corridor. Jace looked back at the two and raised his eyebrows.
"You two coming?"
They didn't answer, they just stepped into the corridor. The corridor was even darker then the rest of the crypt. With ever step they took they felt even more nervous and cold. It was like an evil was awaiting them. After awhile it got so dark that Alec and Jace had to take their witch lights out, just like Izzy.
Finally they got to a beautiful wooden door. The door was made of mahogany, it had metal roses and metal vines on the door. The door even had little thorns on the vines ,where the roses rested. When Izzy went to touch the thorn, Jace knocked her hand away.
"It's poisoned."
"Well obviously, someone doesn't want us getting in." Alec said.
"I guess that's too bad for them" Jace said with an evil smile.
He took out he's seraph blade and cut the vines near the door knob. They flew to the ground, leaving the door knob accessible. Jace took a deep breath and put his hand to the door knob. He pulled it and the door came swinging out. It was even darker in this room than the hall. They lite their witch lights even brighter and looked. Their eyes filled with shock at the slight in front of them.
Laying on a stone bed was...a girl.
The girl looked about their age, fifteen. She was wearing a beautiful white dress made of silk. It flowed out after the waist and hung over the bed of stone. The bottom of the dress was an ivory colour because of the moss and how long it had been there. The sleeves were a little puffy and they stopped at the halfway mark of her arm.
The girl was even more beautiful than the dress. She had glossy, dark brown hair with red highlights through it. Her skin looked like she was used to a life in the sun, even though it was obvious she had been there for years. Her lips were full and a rosy pink. She had a slender body and she was tall but not overly tall.
They looked at her in awe, as if she were some kind of goddess. Jace walked over to her and leaned down.
"Don't you dare kiss her, Jace." Izzy said, warning him.
"This isn't Sleeping Beauty."
"I wasn't! I was going to shake her awake!"
He gently shook her but she didn't stir. He then noticed all the faded runes on her arms. He widened his eyes in surprise.
"She's a Shadowhunter!"
"What!?"
"Yeah, look at her arms!"
Her arms were full of faded runes that they had mistaken for scars. Jace took her right hand and noticed that her angelic rune was faded. It was still there, but it was obvious it was faded. He took his stele and redrew the rune, even though Isabelle and Alec were against it. When the lines were connected the room glowed the same blue the wall did when they had first came here.
The girl stirred and opened her eyes.
"No." She screamed.
"No, no, no, no!!!"
"Please calm down! It's alright! We won't hurt you." Jace assured her.
The girl's face went completely blank. Her eyes were vacant, like her soul had left her body. After a few seconds she looked at Jace with confusion in her face.
"I'm sorry...who are you and where am I?"
"You're in London and I'm Jace Wayland. This is Isabelle Lightwood and this is Alec Lightwood." He said pointing to Isabelle and Alec.
"Oh." She said looking worried.
"Are you alright?" Isabelle asked.
"Well, here's the thing, I don't remember anything."
"What? You mean you don't remember how you got here?" Jace asked hoping the answer was no.
"No, I don't remember anything."
"Not even your name?"
"Oh! I remember that! My name is Lillian Bloodsong!"
"I don't know any shadowhunters that go by Bloodsong." Izzy whispered to Jace.
"Neither do I." He whispered back.
"Pardon?" Lillian asked.
"Nothing. Can we call you Lily?" Jace asked.
She nodded her consent and said "I have another to ask. Why I'm I in a crypt?"
"We're not sure. We were exploring this crypt and we found a wall with runes on it. The wall moved and revealed a corridor. We followed it to that door and opened, to find you in here." Isabelle summarized.
"Well that's odd. Why would someone put me in a crypt?"
"I don't know, but let's get you out of here." Jace said.
Lillian stood up without a shake. She took a step so gracefully, it looked more graceful then a ballerina. They all looked shocked because of the fact that she had been lying there for so long. They walked out of the room and down the corridor to the wall. When they went through the passage the wall closed shut once again.
"Jace? I have a bad feeling about this." Izzy whispered to Jace.
"What would you have me do? Leave her in that room? Besides the wall closed and I'm doubtful that it will open again." He whispered back.
Alec looked back at them from up ahead with Lily.
"Hurry up! I want to get out of here."
They kept walking through the crypt to the exit, with Lillian stopping every now and then for Lily to gawk at the crypt's beauty.
Finally they reached the exit. The sun was shining so beautifully in the small wooded area and glistening on the snow that Lillian looked as if she may cry. Jace stopped her from going out the exit though. She looked at him with confusion and was about to say something but stopped when Jace started drawing a rune on her. He connected the swirling lines and she realized it was a glamor rune.
"Your clothes aren't exactly modern. So we don't want anyone noticing that something's up." He replied to her unasked question.
"Oh, that's quite intelligent of you." She said with a smile.
Jace had been so caught up in moment that he didn't realize she had a slight British accent. He also realized she spoke like someone from the Victorian era. He dismissed the thought of her being from the Victorian era though. She couldn't of been there that long, he thought. She probably had family members that spoke like that. Jace didn't dismiss the idea of her being British though because they were in London, England.
"We better head back to the institute and face Maryse. " Jace said while putting his coat on Lily.
"Yeah, Mom's not going to be pleased that we brought a hitchhiker." Alec said.
"Face her? Hitchhiker?" Lillian asked with confusion.
"Is Maryse going to be anger?" She asked fearfully.
"She'll be a bit flustered." Isabelle said with a laugh.
"Oh, maybe we shouldn't go to the institute." Lily said nervously.
"It'll be fine." Jace assured her.
"Are there other Shadowhunters at Maryse's institute?"
"It's not our institute we're just visiting. Maryse had to attend to some business here, so she decided we should come along."Jace replyed to Lillian.
"We actually live in the New York institute." Alec said.
"You do know what New York is, right?" Alec asked when she hadn't said anything.
"Of course! I'm not stupid!"
"Sorry, I just don't know what you remember and don't remember."
"Alright, let me explain. I remember mundane and Shadowhunter events up to 1879; how to do simple things and places. The only thing I don't remember is any of my life. So any event I was in I don't remember it."
"You do know what year it is, right?"Alec asked.
"Well, I'm guessing a few years after 1879, so 1893." Lily responded.
"It's 2006..."
"Oh my...what month?"
"January."
"I guess that's why there's snow." Lily said shivering and feeling stupid.
"We should get going to the institute, it's getting dark." Izzy said trying to chance the subject.
"Oh, are you scared of the dark?" Lillian asked.
"No, it's just that demons come out at night and you aren't really prepared for a fight."
"Oh. Well..." Lillian was then cut off by a growling.
"Hellhound." Jace hissed.
"Dammit, I usually love when I'm right, but not so much now." Izzy whispered.
Alec gave Isabella a stern look that silenced her. He then started to fumble in his bag for something. Alec was getting even more frustrated as he looked. He gave up and gave Jace a worried look.
"Izzy, have any weapons Lillian could use?" Jace asked in a whisper.
Izzy shook her head no. The growling was getting louder. More growls were joining the original. There was group of hellhounds coming toward them. It was hard to tell, but they all heard about fifteen hellhounds.
Lillian picked up a sharp stick.
"Anything can be a weapon." She said with confidence.
Her confidence gave the rest of the Shadowhunters confidence. Izzy, Jace and Alec all whispered an angel's name to seraph blades and the blades lit up like a fire blazing.
The hellhounds approached them growling viciously, their eyes glowing red like blood. All the hellhounds approached them until they were in the glow of the lamp in the graveyard. Once they lit, the shadowhunters realized there were about twenty hellhounds.
"I've never seen so many together in one place before." Izzy whispered in fear.
They could handle a group of five hellhounds no problems and no fear, but twenty hellhounds at once was a different. The hellhounds were obviously tracking something, or else they wouldn't be in a pack.
The hellhounds all stopped in a circle around them. They had stopped growling in that moment and stared at them. Their eyes were fierce and intimidating. Their glowing red eyes seemed to look through them. The confidence left everyone but Lillian.
She grabbed Jace's seraph blade and replaced it with the sharp stick she had found. She charged forward, not saying a word. She swung her blade in a circle so fast it was a blur and vanquished 6 hellhounds at a time.
Jace looked looked at her in wonder. He realized how truly beautiful she was in that moment. Her wavy, glossy brown hair was lose and down, glowing in the light. Her stormy grey eyes were so focused and calm, that it made you feel the same way. Her face was like an open book. Lillian's full lips parted as she concentrated on the fight and her fair skin glowed in the light of the lamp. She was just a little shorter than Jace so she was not small compared to the hellhounds. She was slightly flushed from the fight but it made her even more beautiful.
"Jace!" Alec called, looking panicked.
Jace turned around and came face to face with a hellhound. If Jace hadn't been focusing on Lillian then he could've stopped the hellhound from knocking him to the ground. The hellhound had demon ichor dripping from its mouth. The ichor worked like acid and slowly burned him on the chest. Jace reached for the stick Lillian had found, but it wasn't there. He had dropped it when the hellhound had knocked him to the ground.
For once he started to panic. There were no weapons around him and everyone else was too busy fighting. He struggled to keep the hellhound from biting him. He was starting to lose his grip on its neck when Lillian knocked it off. With one swift arc down she killed the hellhound.
"You have to be more careful you know." Lillian said with concern.
"It's no big deal."
"You're burned with acid though and it's my fault for taking your seraph blade!"
"I'm fine and you needed it more then me."
Lillian turned around suddenly and killed a hellhound jumping at her. When her blade struck the demon it turned to black powder, then even the powder disappeared. Jace and Lillian looked around and saw that all demons were gone. Alec and Isabelle were both out of breath from the fight. Alec looked up at Lillian looking anger.
"You could've got Jace killed by taking his blade!"
"Alec! Calm down! Lillian needed it more and she killed most of them." Jace said sternly and reassuringly because Lillian had tears in her eyes.
"You could've been killed." Alec said in a blank voice.
Jace didn't understand why Alec was lashing out at Lillian and why he was being this way. Jace thought for a second until it clicked. Alec was in love with him. He was so stupid to not realize it. The signs were all there. He promised himself you wouldn't say any thing to Alec until necessary.
"Alec, I'm not dead."
"I know."
Their conversation stopped when they heard a thump. Lillian had fallen to the ground. Now that her back was showing he could see bite marks along her back. There was demon ichor oozing from all of them. Lillian was moaning in pain. Luckily she wasn't awake to feel the pain anymore.
"Dammit! Why didn't she say anything!" Jace cursed.
"Probably cause she's as stubborn as you." Izzy replied whipping her long black hair out of her face. She gave him a stern look with her dark brown eyes. She was towering over Jace because of how tall she was. She was only fourteen but she towered over most guys. Her fair skin glowed in the light. Her beautiful full lips were in a scowl and she was looking at Jace in annoyance.
"We need to take her back to the institute! Now!" She snapped at Jace.
"Right." Jace said scooping Lillian up in his arms. He noticed how light she was and thought it was from lack of food. He wondered how she hadn't died from starvation in the crypt. She had obviously been asleep most of the time and had been there a long time.
It wasn't a far walk from the graveyard to the institute but with Lillian it felt like a life time. He wanted to help her, but he didn't know what was wrong with her. She was breathing just fine but she was moaning. Jace looked at her face thinking how beautiful she looked but that was all he thought. She was beautiful like Izzy was, he didn't feel love for her in that way. He just had the urge to protect her with his life.
They could finally see the institute towering over the other buildings. They ran by the Devil's Tavern, a downworlders bar, and sprinted toward the institute. The institute was even more beautiful than a church, it had an old Victorian look to it. It was in the shape of a church but much taller and it was the resting and safe place for Shadowhunters. There were other institutes in the world, in fact there were hundreds. They opened the door no problem due to the fact that they were the angel's children.
"Maryse! We need help!" Jace called.
Maryse Lightwood and Arthur Blackthorn came running to find out what was going on. When they saw Lillian and realized she was one of them, Arthur ran to call the Silent Brothers.
"How did this happen?!" Maryse asked in an angry voice.
"Look it's a long story! We need to get her her help!" Izzy yelled.
They all rushed her to the infirmary and laid her down. Maryse tried to clean up what she could but she kept getting demon ichor on the cloth, burning holes into it. Luckily, two Silent Brothers came in gliding toward her.
"Please leave the room." One of the Silent Brothers told them in there head.
At that moment the other Silent Brother gasped, as much as he could telepathically.
"Tessa." The Silent Brother said.
Then the thoughts were cut off from the rest of the Shadowhunters as they walked out. Once they were out the door was closed shut.
