Xiao's POV

Dull sunlight crept through the cloth curtains, causing Xiao to stir from his sleep. After a yawn and a few blinks, he looked toward the clock mounted on the wall; it read 9:26am. Xiao pulled the fluffy comforter off of him, earning a groan from the smaller man he had forgotten about.

Xiao froze as he watched Venti subconsciously grab the blanket, pulling it over his shoulders, only his peaceful sleeping face visible. Xiao's heart was pounding out of his chest as he stared intently at the sleeping male against him. His brunette to turquoise hair was hanging messily out of his usual braids. His lips parted slightly as he evenly breathed in his slumber, his small hands gripping the blanket.

Xiao slowly stood from the bed. His hands shook as he recalled last night's events. Venti, asleep in my bed?! His breathing quickened as he left the room, shutting the door slowly behind him. He noticed Venti's Skyward Harp leaning against the green couch, the beautiful bow covered in blood. Venti's blood.. Xiao went to the kitchen, grabbing a washrag and bleach he had found after rummaging around in the cabinets under the sink, then returned to the bow. He sat on the floor with his legs criss-crossed, the bloodied bow on his lap.

Just as he was about to get to work, he heard a soft knock on the door. Xiao stood, cracking open the door to be met with Katheryne's friendly smile. "Goodmorning, Xiao," she held neatly folded clothes in her hands, to which I immediately recognized as Venti's. "Barbara asked for these to be brought here, and that Venti will be able to wear them again by tomorrow. Is he staying here?" Katheryne's eyes looked over Xiao's shoulder.

"Uhm, not exactly? I don't know. He just showed up last night, but he's more than welcome to stay.." Xiao smiled sheepishly at Katheryne, who handed him the small pile of clothes. "Bye, Katheryne." Katheryne waved and went down the stairs, disappearing around the corner of the building.

Xiao returned inside and settled back on the floor, criss-crossing his legs and leaning his back against the couch. He pulled the bow into his lap, dipping the rag into the bowl of bleach and wiped down Venti's weapon, making sure to get all the stains off to the best of his abilities. He examined the skyward harp, noticing that Venti had carved the letter V and a small heart toward the bottom of the weapon.

Xiao was lost in thought when he heard a groan, then a loud thump and a yell. He immediately sprung up, grabbing his jade polearm and bursting through the bedroom door. The room looked empty, the large comforter was no longer on the bed, nor was Venti. He slowly crept around the bed, only to be met with Venti on the floor wrapped in the comforter and Xiao's jacket. Venti looked up at Xiao, confusion and embarrassment evident on his face.

Venti's POV

"Are you okay? Did you fall?" Xiao crouched down, his arms wresting on his bent knees. He stared at Venti, waiting for a response. Have his eyes always been so pretty? It took a few moments, but Venti nodded. Xiao held out his hand to Venti, who hesitantly took it. He helped Venti stand, then examined his bandages.

"How did I get here? Why am I here?" Venti stared at Xiao, who was zoned in on Venti's bloody bandages.

"You showed up drunk, at the door last night." Xiao glanced up quickly at Venti, then lifted the jacket a bit. Venti mentally face palmed as his face ignited in red, embarrassed at the pretty boy examining his abdomen. Venti jumped when Xiao's fingers briefly brushed against his exposed stomach. Xiao's hands shot away. "I apologize, but I have to change your bandages.." Venti stares for a moment before realizing what the boy in front of him is saying.

"Ah, I-I.. okay.." Venti winced as he pulled off the loose joggers, followed by the jacket. He hopped up on the bed as Xiao moved around the room, collecting the needed medical supplies. Xiao then slid onto the bed next to Venti, who's eyes were closed. He sucked in a breath as he felt Xiao's hands on his thigh, unwrapping the bloodied bandages and wiping them down with peroxide. Venti grunted at the sting.

"It's almost done, I'm sorry.. I know it hurts." Xiao smiled reassuringly at the injured boy under him. He finished wrapping him up, helping Venti back into the jacket and joggers. "Barbara says you can return to normal clothing tomorrow morning," Xiao runs a shaky hand through his hair. "You're more than welcome to stay here.."

Venti sucks in a breath. "Th-thank you," He smiled at Xiao, who turned pink in the face. "I have to go see Diluc. Shall I return tonight?" Xiao nods and Venti walks out of the bedroom, Xiao following close behind. Venti notices his bow on the couch and grabs it. "Thank you, see you soon, Xiao."

And with that, he swiftly left, heading for Angel's Share.

Twenty minutes later, Venti pushes open the heavy door to Angel's Share. Diluc vaults over the counter, hands placed firmly on Venti's shoulders. "Where have you been? Are you okay? Aether told me what happened." The red headed man examined Venti's abdomen. "Who's coat is this?" Diluc recognized the intricate patterns on the sleeves, but couldn't quite place the location.

"A friend's." Venti smiled and pulled himself onto a stool. "I've been staying somewhere while I'm healing. I should be heading home tomorrow.." He sighed and dreaded the next day.

Diluc knew little of Venti's home life. The young boy lived with his mother, his father having left when he was just three years old. Venti spent a lot of time in Angel's Share, sometimes coming in with a small and a limp, or dark purple black eyes and bloody noses.

Diluc slid a glass of grape juice to Venti, earning a frown as he sipped the liquid. "Do you trust him? Xiao?" Diluc looked at Venti, before it clicked in his head who's jacket the small boy was wearing.

"Ah, Xiao. He seems to have good intentions. And his Father, Mr. Zhongli, is a great guy. So, yes, I trust him. I believe he'll protect us if need be." Diluc smiled at Venti, having known that Xiao saved Venti's life just the day before.

But would Xiao be there, when Venti had to be saved from his own home?
