Chapter 6
I pushed my head out the car gripping the door in anger and took a deep breath.
Finally, that car journey couldn’t get any longer.
I looked around surveying the building my uncle had just parked in front and shrugged, well here goes nothing.
Stepping out of the car I rushed to hide behind my mum and motioned for Sarah to follow. After all I had really only come because of her pressurizing me. I looked at the entrance of the block of apartments and cringed.
I mean I’m not really a people person, and I hate the way they judge in Syria, they literally pick out the littlest thing which you’ve done wrong and gossip about it to everyone that knows you. Oh well, I held Sarah’s hand and squeezed it tight as we entered.
My sister had raced up the block with Hayder and disappeared up the stairs. I mean she had it easy after all, I wish I was that young.
Rolling my eyes I went up the steps and looked down longingly at the door I had just entered from, I would give everything to just bolt!
Sighing I dragged my gaze away from the door and met a smirking Ryan. Glaring in anger, still fuming about what he had done in the car, I turned my head away sharply and charged up the stairs forgetting my nerves completely.
As my mum, grandparents, uncle and aunt where engulfed in hugs and kisses I looked at Sarah for support as she gave me a reassuring smile. I entered through the apartment door and the people around me went silent, some rushed to greet Sarah. I stood there panicking, I mean there was at least forty people and I estimated 15 where just staring checking me out like they were figuring out how to judge me. I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I looked back blushing at whoever was trying to get my attention but when I saw who it was I narrowed my eyes glaring automatically.
‘What is it?’ I said lowering my voice to a whisper and crossing my arms to see what Ryan had to say at an awkward moment like this.
He cleared his throat, his mouth twitching slightly like he was trying to hold in a laugh. I stood there fuming like those cartoons with smoke coming out of there ears and a tomato red face.
‘go on’ I urged.
‘well I was just going to say that you, don’t need to be scared, I mean I bet there scared of you more then you are of them,’ he motioned to my body with his hand ‘and anyway I think it would be polite if you said hi, plus your kind of blocking my way I’m still outside and you know my fans are getting impatient’ if looks could kill he would have been dead by now because I was sending him a death glare.
I mean fans? What kind of guy had an ego this big!?
‘pshhht fans? well sorry for stopping you I mean I don’t want to keep you from anyone, though I’m sure these fans only exist in your dreams’ I gave him a disgusted look and turned on my heels hearing him chuckle from behind me.
Argh! I cannot stress the hate I carry inside me towards him.
I studied the people around me who where now in twos or threes whispering fiercely probably a new thing to gossip about had just erupted, I shrugged pasting a dazzling smile on my face. I extended my hand to the first person in front of me and was rushed eventually by the many that had recognised me (though I didn’t know them). By the time I had greeted everyone I was exhausted. Looking around the room I didn’t know if I should sit or stand. I looked for my mum who was now seated and in deep conversation with one of her long lost friends, which I had already forgotten the name of.
