It was 5 years after the release. My friend, Jonathan Gonzales, and I were training in the fields, killing goblins. Jonathan was my first friend in the game. He’s been training in swordsmanship since day 1.
“Hiyaaa!!”, I yelled as I slashed a goblin’s head clean off. “Good job, Kuuga! Maybe on a few more levels, you’ll be strong enough to take me on”, praised Jonathan. He was 19, I was 16 at the time. But everyone assumed I was 18, which I didn’t mind. They don’t need to know my real age anyway.
“Thanks to you, that is! You’re so strong!”, I said, sheathing my sword.
“Ha, maybe for a starter. But I’m just a rookie like you.”
“Wow. And you’re number 1 in the Novice Arena! I’m ranked 56!”, I yelled.
“56!?”, exclaimed Jon, “that’s better than I expected! Before you know it, you’ll be in the top 10!”
“Now way! I’d never be that good! Besides, you’re the best! There’s no way I can best you!”
“Heh, if you say so. Well, I gotta go for today. See ya tomorrow?”, said Jon.
“Yeah, see ya”, I said.
After then, we finished our tutorials.
As Jon and I scouted out some of the shops, we gathered some gears for our quests.
Since we did the demos, we blew through the tutorials real quick. Then we finally started our first official quest.
“Hey, when do you think we’ll be able to create Imagineswords?”, asked Jon, with his arm folded behind his head. I shrugged. “Beats me. I don’t even know how.
“Maybe we can look at a tutorial for it. I just wanna hurry up and beat this game! I have ramen waiting on me! And no game’s gonna keep me from my ramen!!”, I declared.
“Word”, Jon agreed. We walked over to the Bladesmith Shop . “Hey, how do you make Imagineswords?”, Jon asked the Bladesmith, while leaning over the counter. The Bladesmith was a fat old man with an eyepatch, overalls, and a pair of working gloves. He looked up from the barrel he was moving.
“Ah, yes. First you need to gather resources to make it”, said the Bladesmith.
“Such as?”, asked Jon.
“Anything, really”, the Bladesmith said.
“Anything? So I could make my shoe into a sword?''Jon raised up his shoe. “Yup.
Anything. This is called Imaginesword for a reason, y’know.”
“Okay, I’ll come back with something better then. Come on, Kuu. We gotta start our quest. Let's find resources on the way”, said Jon. “O-ok! Let’s!”, I replied, following him.
We traveled into the woods. It was dark, and there weren’t many players around. “Do you think there could be anyone other than us out here?”, I asked.
“Probably not, but let’s stay sharp. Since we only have 3 lives, we need to be careful not to lose them. Who knows what people could be doing right now?”
We wandered deeper into the forest. We hadn’t caught sight of any possible dangers.
Well, except for the occasional Hog monsters that show up out of nowhere. As soon as we finished the quest, our levels went up to 10. “Alright! Now let’s go get some--”, Jonathan started.
Then we heard a girl’s scream from afar. Jon and I exchanged serious glances. Then we mounted our Chocobos, and rode off as fast as we could towards the screaming.
When we finally reached the area, Jon and I hid behind some bushes. We saw two men who were cornering this girl in a clearing. “Shit! There are pedos in this game too!? Why am I not surprised?”, I whispered. “Tell me about it! Let’s go save her and get this over with! I’m starving!”, whispered Jon.
“C’mon! Stop struggling! We just wanna peek!”, one of the men said. That does it! I jumped out of the bush and drew my sword. “Hey bastards!! Why don’t you go fuck yourselves!?”, I shouted as I charged at them.
“Kuuga, stop! You can’t just charge into battle like that!”, shouted Jon, drawing his katana. I slashed my sword at one of the guys. He backed up quickly. “What the hell is your problem! Fuck off!!”, he shouted.
“I could say the same!”, then I slashed at him again. Then a wave of water flashed out of nowhere, and wiped out those guys in seconds.
“....”, Jon and I were baffled….
“Y’know, you guys have really got to get with the program here! You should have taken them out with one blow!”, said the girl. She was holding a long magic staff.”HUH!?” Jon and I said in unison. “Who are you!?”, asked Jon.
“I’m Divine Shot, but call me Divine. I’m a Charter”, said Divine.
“What’s a ‘Charter’?”, I asked.
“You don’t know!? A Charter is a high level player from Wanderer’s previous game ‘Lords of Fantasia’!! Players from there can merge their accounts from there to here, so they don’t have to start over!”, explained Jon. “Wow! That’s AWESOME!! So you’re like, super strong, right!?”, I asked.
“Yeah. I’m number 7 on the list of High Charters. High CHarters are those who reach BP level 100. I’m the 7th strongest player on the board. That means I could kill you guys just by poking you in the arm. Literally”, boasted Divine. Then she deactivated her staff. I sheath my sword and so did Jonathan.
“So, what are your names? You two seem like a heroic bunch!”, asked Divine. “My name’s Jonathan Gonzales, and this is my homie Kuuga Jaeger” replied Jon, slapping me on the the back. “H-hi!”, I said. She walked up to us. Then she patted me on the head. “That was pretty brave of you to try to help, but I could handle it on my own”, she said.
“Thanks!” I said with a wide grin. “Hey, you guys wanna meet my husband?”Divine asked. “Husband? I guess. Who is it?”, I asked. “Oh, you know, Kamati”, she replied.
Then Jon froze. “K-KAMATI!!? YOU’RE MARRIED TO HIM!!?”, he yelled in disbelief.
Divine glared at him. “SHHHH! Keep it down! I don’t want the whole world to know! Plus, it’s only in the game. Relax”, she said.
“Who’s Kamati?”, I asked. They both looked at each other, then at me, as if I was stupid of something.
“What rock have you been living under!?”, yelled Divine.
“I-I just asked!”, I stuttered, “but seriously, who is he?”
“Kamati. The strongest Charter…”, said Jon.
