Liam held the girl’s face between his hands. He couldn’t take it anymore. The girl was having a breakdown after seeing him, accidentally, in his vampire form. He planned to tell her or, maybe he never did want to tell her. He didn’t want her to suffer his curse, but fate had other plans.
It was full moon. Its light shone through his old Victorian house’s cathedral window. Jica slowly walked inside her boyfriend’s house to surprise him for his birthday at exactly twelve midnight. She planned it a long time ago—since she knew he is nocturnal. She held the small cake, with a candle that was lit, in both hands as she walked to Liam’s bedroom.
“Liam love,” she called over the door, her smile reaching ear from ear. “Liam?” she called again. The door creaked open. She curiously peeked in the dark room. She shrugged the odd feeling off and happily went inside. The lit candle and the moonlight were the only thing that made her able to see.
“Where are you-“ she was cut off by a pair of glowing red eyes somewhere at the corner of the room. She stared with wide eyes as the monster stepped at the space in the room that the moonlight was able to touch.
Jica dropped the cake and stood frozen in place. A single tear fell from her left eye and she laughed. Liam immediately calmed down and slowly transformed into human. He rushed to her side, worried that the curse made fate bend. She wasn’t supposed to see him like that.
“Jica please do talk to me.” Liam pleaded to the girl, staring in nothingness. He looked at the girl’s eyes and saw pain and sadness. A pang of guilt and pain hit him the way the sun’s rays could burn him.
He caused it—the reason why the girl he loves so much turned insane as her soul became a jail of insanity forever. He could almost taste her soul, so pure yet tainted with insanity. It was a punishment and he knew it.
He was a judge during the Renaissance period. He condemned so many people to death for thinking they were witches. He didn’t think of the consequences for all the innocents’ lives he took.
To make him feel their agony, one of the witches cursed him together with the girl he will love truly. Seeing the girl he loves succumbed to insanity was more than the hundreds of years, walking alone on Earth.
Love, seeing you suffer
Is greater than to journey this earth forever,
I love you truly that I’ll give my life
To end your misery yet not enough.
