"Thank you Miss. Green, please visit us again" I smiled at the older woman and closed the register softly. She hurried to grab her bag and exit the building.
Miss green never spoke to me, or even made eye contact, she spoke to herself in a small frantic whisper while she was in the small corner store I worked at part time , 'Grabs a lot' despite her strange behavior I liked her. Miss green kept to herself and who was I to judge someone for being 'crazy'.
"I can help whoever is next!" I called out a small line had formed away from Miss. Green they all had a habit of avoiding the poor lady like a plague. So naturally no one had noticed that miss green had already left the building.
Mr. Harrison stepped forward quickly and dropped random items onto the counter staring at me coldly. Mr. Harrison was a dentist in town, and a wealthy one at that, his daughter and I use to be friends before I became a "weirdo".
"Good evening Mr. Harrison, did you find everything?" My voice shook violently. Mr. Harrison had that effect over me. After seeing his violent murder I could hardly make eye contact with the smugful man.
I first saw his death years ago, sometime in middle school, but I knew this was his last year on earth from one small detail. His daughter, Cleo, was in her senior year and while seeing his death Cleo had on her Senior jacket the school allowed you to order.
I finished scanning his items as he stood silently, ignoring my questions and attempt at small talk. I hurried to read back the total to him looking at the screen and no where else. Mumbling a good bye and good day to him I glanced at the clock, one hour left to go in my shift.
A small fimilar throbbing started behind my eyes, a migraine. After two visions in one day I expected one. But I hoped I could make it through my small shift at the store before it came on. Rubbing my temples I glanced around the store. A few small shoppers were weaving in out of the Ilses not really deciding on any items.
Suddenly Cherry came strolling up to the counter, swaying her hips in her small cheetah mini skirt.
" Hey freak, let me get a pack of newports." She lazily pointed to the menthols behind me on the wall but I froze in place staring at her outfit as my stomach sank.
I've seen this outfit, in my vision.
"I'm only seventeen...I can't sell to you yet.." the words tumbled out of my mouth in mixed giberish "let me grab my manager"
I ran from behind my counter and outside into the cool air. Hurrying to hide behind our outside ice machine.
Cherry was going to die today. Maybe right after leaving the store. Maybe two hours from now. But my classmate was going to die. I gripped my chest trying to calm my breathing.
Glancing around I saw it, Cherry's bright red slug bug. Parked only two feet away from me away from view of the rest of the customers or streets. Before I could think, I pulled out my box cutter and walked towards the bug.
Good luck driving anywhere with four flat tires Cherry, maybe one day you'll thank me for your life.
