I know I haven't been very regular with my chapters, and I am truly sorry for that. I have a tendency to have mood swings, it seems. I don't promise regular updates , though, I do believe I will finish this book someday.
Do let me know if you have anything interesting to share relating to my story.
Happy readings !
______________________________________The streets were crowded with people of all kinds; the destitute, the rich and the workers. The ones who lived off their wealth, the ones who dreamt of wealth and those who didn't care about their tomorrows. Fiona was on a hunt. The streets were moist and wet, the pavement darker due to the rains. The air smelt of smoke and soil, everything was bright under the sparkle of water and puddles. The passer-by paid no heed to her, as he scuttled down the road to a taxi waiting by the corner. People were too busy to notice the chase. The prey was moving quickly, his neck stiff as sweat gleamed on his skin. He walked swiftly, his feet in a hurry. He knew nothing of what watched him in the shadows, but his body language indicated agitation. He was afraid of something, and fear made Fiona giddy. Fear meant the prey was a coward, and cowards tell secrets.
She followed him till they reached the docks, and the sun now hung slightly near the horizon. It looked melancholic here, the sea a deep collection of tears. Or perhaps, that was just how she saw everything; tinted in sadness. The prey looked about, trying to find his accomplice, but none other than the daily civilians paid him any heed. Fiona had enough of waiting, and emerged from her spot in the deep shadows of a dilapidated stall. She had much power as Wrath, but this required eye contact. She had crossed the half of the harbour when she noticed a woman glide towards the prey. Her dress was floral and she smelt of lavender perfume, as Fiona detected with her heightened senses. Fiona also detected that this woman was not as she appeared. She sensed the rage that fuelled the woman, her deep desire to kill. Fiona felt happy to know she was not the only sociopath near the sea.
"When I asked you to look inconspicuous, I meant it. Did you even look to see if you were being followed?", the woman said.
"I swear, whoever it was, I lost them in the crowd", the prey replied.
"Did you bring my payment. " Snapped the woman.
"Did you bring it", asked the prey. The woman scoffed. She opened her bag and held out a box, sealed tight to avoid spillage. Fiona smelt the blood within it.
"Did you have to package it with such care", asked the prey, uncomfortable with the amount of wrapping the woman had made for an organ. Perhaps, if the paper and design weren't in pink, with daisies, it would have been less unnerving. The woman grinned.
"I like to treat my parcels with care, and my customers, even more so", she said. Fiona felt the words meant more than just their meaning.
"Ofcourse.", the prey twitched. "Will your other customer be arriving soon"
"Not today.", the woman answered quickly. "Sins don't deign to meet commoners."
The man looked disappointed, but jerked a nod, and turned to leave. Fiona wanted to stay. To follow this woman and see where she would go, and to whom she would go to. A sin had been in contact with her. But, there were many, and they were all wicked. It did not suprise Fiona the least that one would know a mercenary. No, she needed to stay focused on her current lead.
The man moved quickly, but more easily, his shoulders relaxed. What he had been sent to collect, had been collected. Gift wrapped, too. His employer would be glad. Too bad he'd never make it to the delivery site.
She grabbed him like an item from the trash, barely holding him. But her supernatural strength enabled even her smallest pinky to lift boulders. Throwing him into a manhole, she dragged him into the deep gutters below the city. The drain pipes were large and the sea made them smell of salt. Good, Fiona thought, the wounds would burn even more so here.
"No, please. I beg you, I won't fight. I'll tell you everything, please don't hurt me" he cried, as Fiona showed her true self, her Sinly form. Her eyes glowed red and her veins darkened. Her claws grew out and her fangs extended. She bared her teeth at her her prey as she slashed her hand across his chest and watched the blood ooze out. Not deep enough to cut bone or muscle, a simple flesh wound. The prey begged her not to hurt him, not because of the wound, but because he knew the true wounds she could inflict. She grabbed his throat, her claws piercing his flesh, she used his punctures as an anchor to hold him in place, thick needles holding him still.
"Talk" was all she said, and he poured out everything. When he had finished his cowardly attempt for survival, she clawed every inch of him, ripping him to shreds. Till skin peeled off like ribbons and flesh was seen more than the skin on his human body. He bled slowly, as she compelled him not to make a sound. Sins could control the mind of a mortal and Fiona used it to her utmost advantage. He cried silently, as his body was ripped. She would have let him go, truly, she would have. Had he not raped an innocent female child, his very own niece.
Retribution was in order, and retribution spared no one. She tactically shoved her claws into his chest, right into his pulmonary artery. She leaned closer, and whispered.
"You will die, a mere scrap of a man, as you choke and drown in your own blood. Unable to scream, to cry, to call for help. A perfect ending, considering you never let her scream, or cry, or call for help. She would be glad to know you were given this gift."
As Fiona covered her body with her long cloak, and set off to her house, hiding the man in the drain pipes with the filth, where he belonged. She felt a deep satisfaction, knowing she did the dirty work the angels could not.
