2020 - Greenville

"Again this doesn't mean anything" I said, trying to convince myself of that. "I don't know how you guys did this, but it isn't funny anymore. Was there really a fire at the school and did those boys die?" I asked the twins. If so, then this was a really sick joke. I kept flipping through the pages and reading the memorial pages over and over again.

"Yes, those guys did die! Argh, you are so fucking stubborn" The annoying one said, looking at me like I'm an idiot. "You are looking at the ghost of those two right now, dipshit" He continued. "How hard is that to understand" He muttered under his breath, but I still heard it.

"I don't believe you" This was all just to weird.

"What do we need to do for you to believe us?" Dylan asked friendly.

"I don't know, but pictures and books can be faked!" I explained, annoyed. This whole thing is messing with my head. We were all quite for a while. I was trying to figure all this shit out, while the twins were probably thinking of a way to convince me.

"I got it!" Ezra practically shouted, while jumping up on a desk. The Liberian looked at me funny before shushing at me and turning to her book again. That was so unfair, it was Ezra that stood on a freaking desk in the middle of the library, still she decided to glare at me. In response I immediately sent him an evil glare, he shrugged and smiled in response. Such an idiot.

"Ezra, we are trying to think" Dylan said, clearly annoyed with him too.

"Well, if you for ones listen to me, then you will see I actually have the solution" Ezra whined, while adjusting his bandana. It made him look like a model, with a smug smirk.

"Fine, what do you think you can do to convince me?" I wondered.

"We just have to talk to Mellisa!" Ezra said excited, while Dylan paled a little.

"Who's Mellisa?" I don't know any Mellisa, but to be fair I'm still new in town. Is it a student or something, but then how is it related to the fire.

"Mellisa is Dylan's ex-girlfriend. They were dating before we died. Well, we were probably killed to be honest" Ezra said casually. If this turns out to be true, then how can he talk about is naturally.

"Your ex-girlfriend?" I asked, turning to Dylan.

He took a shaky breath before answering me. "Yeah, she was my high school sweetheart and the woman I want or rather wanted to marry. We were together since we were 14 to my death" He explained.

"Okay, so how can she help you convince me?"

"She works here" Ezra shrugged.

Mellisa....Mellisa Hansen..."Wait! Mrs. Hansen?" I ask shocked, thinking about my teacher. "Like my history teacher?".

"Yeah, she went to school here too. She had all these big dreams when she were younger, but she sadly ended up as a teacher here" Dylan explained, clearly uncomfortable.

"Still, she can validate the story. She went to high school with us and can tell you, that we aren't lying" Ezra exclaimed, ignoring Dylans clear discomfort. "I don't know"

"Look at this" Ezra said, while stepping close beside me. He turned the pages in one of the yearbooks. "Hah! Look at this" He leaned over me and pointed to a page. I looked at the page and saw a picture of a young beautiful Mellisa Hansen, there was no question that this was a younger version of my teacher. She had her red hair lose, with a few strands sat fast with a couple hairpins. She was wearing a cheerleader outfit and a silver necklace with the year 1993 on.

"Okay" I said, accepting that this was in fact the real Mrs. Hansen. "Let's go talk to Mrs. Hansen".

"YES! Finally some progress" Ezra said, while grabbing my hand and tugging me towards the exit.

"I will just stay here and clean up the books" Dylan yelled after us. He looked a little upset.

"Don't mind Dylan" Ezra said, when we exited the library. "He's just a little upset because of Mellisa. Imagine seeing the love of your life everyday and you have no way of being with her. We both died and left everything behind. After a couple of years our classmates moved away and got on with their lives, but we are still stuck here" He explained, making me a little sad. "I didn't have a lot of people anyway, I only had Dylan and my dad. But he had a whole lot of friends and a girlfriend, he lost so much that day" He continued.

"Here we are" He said, gesturing towards the door. I took a deep breath and a last hesitated look at him before knocking on the door.

"Come in" I entered the classroom and saw Mrs. Hansen sitting at her desk.

"Brooks, how can I help you?" She asked.

"I just have a few questions, if you have time?" I asked, stepping closer.

"Sure, what do you want to know?" She smiled.

"To be honest this isn't really school related and feel free to not answer" I reassured her.

"Alright" Mrs. Hansen said unsurely.

"Is it true that there was a fire here in 1995?" I started out.

She took a hastily breath before talking again "Yeah, there was a fire in the old part of school. The old gymnasium was located there, but most of it unfortunately burned down" She explained, while looking at the floor.

"What happened? If you don't mind me asking"

"Ehm, they never actually found the reason. The assumed it was arson, since the doors was locked from the outside. They found traces of gasoline on the floor, but I never actually investigated it very much. I actually went to school here at the time and it was very hard for all of us" She was clearly trying to stay strong, but I could see her hands shaking. She placed them under the table.

"She's right though, they never figured out what happened" Ezra whispered lowly, while standing close behind me. Mrs. Hansen didn't react, which made me believe him a little more.

"That's horrible" I whispered.

"Yeah, it was a tragedy for the whole town" Mrs. Hansen said.

"Where anyone hurt?" I said, trying to casually ask about the twins.

She coughed uncomfortably "Uhm, yeah. Two brothers were trapped in the shower room" She gulped. "Uhm...they didn't survive, sadly"

"I think I read about them, twins right?" I asked.

"Yup, the Young twins" She explained, while avoiding eye contact.

"Oh, were you very close with them?" I asked.

"In a way" She said, avoiding eye contact. She looked so sad, I decided I had to stop this.

"Oh, well I'm very sorry to hear that" I tried.

"It's fine. Most people end up knowing about it, since it was a big deal for this small town. I understand you being curious. The new gymnasium was actually named Young Gymnasium after them" She continued saying.

"I'm really sorry for disturbing. I will get going" I said, unsure.

"Of course. You can come here anytime Brooks, I know it can be very hard moving to a new town. So, really just talk to me anytime" She said, smiling at me. I can still clearly see the hurt in her eyes. I nodded before leaving her classroom.

"So, you believe us?" Ezra asked, the moment we were outside her door.

I stood still, thoughts running through my mind. I walked outside and taking out my cigarettes. Slowly I nodded, while lightning my first cigarette. I don't know how they did it, but I'm convinced. I take a deep inhale and sits down at the grass by the parking lot.

The twins died. I'm talking to ghost. Yup, the world is crazy.
