Book 2: Tough Helper

Ch. 1: Get to Know Me

"Run Mr. Sparkles! The bad man is coming for you!" I told Fluffy, my unicorn best friend, playing our favorite game. Again. For the fifteen-hundredth time already today!

"Don't worry Sammy," Fluffy said, his voice much deeper than mine, "I have some tricks up my sleeve."

"But you don't have a sleeve Mr. Sparkles?" I laughed. Fluffy was so silly. 

"Oh! I didn't mean that! My bad!" He responded, sounding embarrassed. 

I took pity on him, "What are going to do Mr. Sparkles?"

"I'm going to summon my rainbow bridge and-"

"Are you having fun?" A voice said behind me. I jumped around, ready to run. I was relieved when I saw it was Amelia leaning in the doorway. 

She was wearing pants kind of like the ones when I first met her. The only difference was she was wearing a very baggy dark blue sweater with her hands in the pockets leaning against the doorframe. It had a weird picture on it. It was a brain with a bunch of weird science stuff around it. I sat looking at her shyly, taking the purple unicorn hair clip in my hair and playing with it. I always do that when I get nervous or startled. It helped calm me down.

After we decided to stay here a few weeks ago, I have been lonely. Carlos was always off training with William and Amelia, Wallace playing with the weird string board, and everyone else always having something to do. 

Everyone except me.

I've been hanging out with Gretel and Kat lately, but after a few days, Gretel left me to go do her work, and Kat was always researching for Will now. The only time I get to talk to anyone is at dinner. I try to talk to Carlos, but he is always so tired, it feels like he isn't even there. It sometimes makes me wish mommy was here. She would make Carlos listen to me.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," Amelia said, putting her hands up, and took a step back, "If you want me to leave, I'll leave." Amelia turned to walk out of the room.

"No!" I yelled, running up and wrapping my arms around her before she could leave, "Don't leave!"

She seemed surprised but quickly hugged me awkwardly back, "Okay, okay. I'll stay."

"No one hangs out with me anymore," I whispered, a few tears in my eyes.

Amelia looked very confused about what to do. I remember Kat once saying that she 'lacked connection with people'... whatever that means.

Soon, her eyes softened, and she bent down to my level, "Well, I'm not busy. If you want, I can hang out with you."

"Yes!" I cheered, grabbing her hand and bringing her to sit down with Fluffy, "Fluffy and I were just defeating a unicorn hunter again."

"Again? There have been other hunters?" Amelia asked with a small smile on her face as she sat next to us. She crossed her legs and propped her head up with her hand. 

"Oh yes, Fluffy is a special unicorn. He can do all sorts of magic, and the hunters want to use that magic to hurt other creatures."

"Oh, that's very... specific?" Amelia quickly shook her head, which was slightly weird, but who was I to judge, "So, do you and Fluffy need some help?" 

"He goes by Mr. Sparkles," I whispered, letting Amelia know about Fluffy's secret, "It's so the hunters can't find him."

"Oh, I got it," Amelia reached into her back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. She held in front of my face, a smirk on her face. I looked at her confused. She started folding it until it turned into a fake paper sword.
