CHAPTER SIX
you know I'd find you sooner or later.

Terrible would be an understatement for
How Jane's date went with Kyle. She ended up leaving after Enzos because he kept pressuring her into leaving early to go back to his place.

He even tried touching her.

Jane knew she had to get the hell out of there. It was only 8pm and she was honestly ready to get going.

The entire walk home, Jane couldn't understand why Mike was trying to keep her safe. I mean, she knew why now, but He hated her, why in the hell would he try to help her??

When her house got into eyes reach, Jane noticed a car in their driveway.
Noticing it right away

"Oh my fucking god" Jane ran to the car, looking in it before realizing they were in the house.

As Jane ran through the front door, she saw the familiar redhead, who shot up from the couch

"MAX!" Jane yelled as she jumped over the couch and into her best friends arms. Immediately bursting into tears

"Oh my god I've missed you" Max cried as she clung onto Jane.

Hopper looked at Joyce who smiled at their daughters interactions

"How did you- how did you know where I was?" Jane laughed as Max pointed to Joyce

"We have news sweetie" Joyce said as Jane wiped her eyes, she looked over at her best friend who's face fell and her own eyes filled with tears.

"Max Whats wrong?" Jane asked as Hopper motioned for them to sit down.

"Um, Max is gonna be staying here with us from now on" Hopper said as Jane's face lit up in excitement, but immediately fell when she heard the sniffles from her best friend.

"Why?" Jane asked lowly as Max got up from the spot, heading to Janes room. Joyce tilted her head in hopes Jane would understand to go after her, but clearly missed the memo

"Billy, Max's brother passed" Hopper softly said as Jane covered her mouth. Her mind began to race. Billy was a brother to Jane, even though he wasn't truly the best at communicating or being entirely nice. He helped her with anything she needed.

When Joyce got done talking, Jane immediately got up from her spot and headed to her room

As she entered the room, Max was on Janes bed, a stuffed animal in hand and mascara running from her eyes

"Some kind of animal attack" Max said as Jane walked over to her best friend.

"Max I'm so sorry" Jane spoke considerately as she hugged her best friend. "I'm so so sorry Max" Jane felt a few tears prick her eyes.

Billy was a good brother to Max, yeah he was a prick at times but he always looked after Maxine.

"You know my parents are yours too" Jane assures as Max nodded. The red head smiled as she got up from the bed

"I need to wash my face. I mean it's been almost 3 months since he -" Max stopped talking as she looked out the window "who's that"

Jane got up from the bed and rolled her eyes at the sight.

"That's Mike Wheeler" Jane said as Max put her hands on her knees and bent down to get a closer look.

"No, the guy next to him" Max asked intrigued.

Jane scoffed playfully at the red heads curiosity

"Lucas Sinclair, not as bad as Mike Wheeler, but still a major dick" Jane assured as she sat back down on the bed

"Is he single?" Max asked as Jane's mouth fell open

"Max!" Jane laughed as the girl made her way to Janes bathroom, turning on the water and rinsing her face off.

"You know I can introduce you to them" "oh and my god, I have a story to tell you" Jane said as Max stopped what she was doing.

"You, me, pizza, and -" Max made a smoking gesture with her hands as Jane's eyes perked up

"It's a fucking girls night"
Jane said as there was a knock at the door.

"I brought someone for you" Hopper said as Jane groaned

"Who?" Jane asked as Mike came into sight
"Oh the devil, dad you shouldn't have" Jane joked earning a laugh from Max

"Funny, I'm just here to collect yesterday's notes, Mr Clarke will beat my ass if I fail this test again" Mike said as he looked at the red head "who's this?" He asked as Max waved

"Wheeler you never cared about grades before" Jane said as Mike sat down next to them

"Yeah that was before we turned Juniors and actually needed to take shit seriously"

Mike said as he nodded towards the unfamiliar girl

"That's Max"

"Hey" Mike said as he grabbed the written papers. Getting up from the floor and sitting on Janes bed

"You come around here a lot?" Max asked as Jane shook her head, wanting her best friend to stop

"Not often but sometimes, Hopper and I used to be close you could say" Mike said as Max smiled

"Dating?" She said

Mike and Janes faces both became a pink color.

"Enemies" They both said at the same time.

Yeah, they would pick on each other still and call each other names, but it felt different. Jane didn't know why, But Mike did

"Oh yeah Jane" Mike said as he handed her notes back. "How did the date do with Smith?" Mike asked as Jane felt her heart clench

"Oh yea" Jane softly spoke as Max popped her knuckles

"You know how fucking mad I am right now!" Mike growled as Jane sunk down into her seat. They were driving Max to get a few things for her room, Mike also wanted to pay Kyle a little visit.

"Can you just fucking drop it! You switch up too damn much Wheeler!" Jane scoffed as she crossed her arms, looking out of the window

"Switch up? Only because you make me! You could've gotten hurt! Are you fucking stupid Jane!" Mike yelled as Jane couldn't hold her anger back anymore

"I DONT CARE MIKE" Jane yelled as Mike pulled the car over.

"Are they always like this?" Max asked Lucas, who was in awe by the redhead. Lucas nodded his head

"It's a love hate relationship" Lucas whispered as the two continued to argue in the front

"How?" Max asked as Lucas chuckled

"He's always mean to her, only because he's had feelings for her. So everything she does pisses him off because he wants to be that boyfriend figure to her" Lucas snorted as Max smiled wide

"Why the hell do they insult each other then?"

Lucas sighed as he looked over at the two
"Like I said, there's still tension between them" Lucas took a deep breath in. "I just don't know which kind"

The red head snickered at his comment as the fighting became more and more amusing to them.

"Why the fuck do you do this Mike! You're nice on minute and then mean the next! Just fucking choose a mood and deal with it!" Jane yelled as Mike looked over at her. His eyes deep and full of emotion.

"Lucas, Max, step out of the car" Mikes voice was deep. Intimidating, it frightened Jane a little

"Man what for?" Lucas complained as Mike gave him a sour look.

"Get out of the car" Mike warned as the two stepped out. Jane was getting nervous. That was until Mike shut the car off completely. Sitting back in his seat

There was a moment of silence before Jane heard him speak.

And shocked was an understatement.
