Iris woke up in a hospital bed. Her clothes felt lighter and thinner. Iris tried to look around, but her vision was completely black. Now, she had to completely depend on smell, taste, touch, and hearing. She heard footsteps, but they didn't sound like shoes. Skeleton feet and there were 2 taps on the floor, which meant there had to be two. Now, she heard shoes being followed by a different person. She couldn't tell what this one was. She smelled chemicals, medicines, cigarette smoke, and oddly, lizard scales.

"Ahh. Experiment Ivy is awake," Gaster sinisterly said.

"Ga-Gaster, we should st-start the experiments on he-her," a female voice stuttered.

"Wait a minute, Alphys. She needs to know Sans and Papyrus," Gaster seemed to wave her off. "Ivy, meet Sans and Papyrus. They are my sons." The word 'sons' came out rough and almost misdemean.

"H-hi, Sa-ans and Papyr-rus," Iris quietly stuttered, not knowing where to face.

"Dad, is she blind?" A small voice asked.

"Yes, Papyrus. After she passed out in the snow, it made her lose complete vision. But, that's what I and Alphys hope to reverse. We hope we can restore her vision and make it better than it was before," Gaster explained.

"so, she's like papyrus and i, right?" A different voice asked.

"Yes, Sans. But you and your brother were born skeletons and as you can tell she was born human," Gaster told.

Iris, Sans, and Papyrus talked for a bit until Iris was led away from them. A hand had grabbed her arm and it felt like a dinosaur had grabbed her. Iris thought that this was Alphys. Alphys led Iris to a room that smelled damp and musty. She also smelled medicine, cigarette smoke, and poison. She hoped that the poison would not be used on her. She coughed a bit. She could hear water dripping, the pitter-patter of Alphys's and her own feet, and the tapping foot of Gaster.

"What took you so long, you bumbling idiot?!" Gaster scolded Alphys.

"I'm so-sorry, Gaster! Iris di-didn't want to st-stop talking to Sans and Pa-Papyrus!" Alphys nervously shouted.

Iris heard a sharp sound, like Gaster smacking Alphys.

"You don't dare yell at me, you idiot," Gaster harshly said.

"so-sorry," Alphys quietly spoke.

"Wh-where am I?" Iris asked.

"Why, that's a good question. But, I cannot answer because I know once you leave, if you leave, you'll tell monsters and they'll come looking for the room," Gaster said roughly.

Iris nodded and stayed silent. She got shoved and strapped into a chair. She tried moving and squirming, but the straps keeping her in place just hurt her. She had to endure needles being pressed into her skin and veins. She had to deal with the chatter of Alphys and Gaster, trying to figure out what they could do. Once they were done with that, they unstrapped her and shoved her back to the room with Sans and Papyrus. Iris noticed something different this time. She could barely see them and that she took damage from everything. Iris smiled softly because her sight was better, but the vision in her left eye was stained red.

'Must've been from the accident,' Iris thought.

"Iris! Are you alright?" Papyrus rushed to her side and helped her up.

"I-I'm fine. Thank you for checking, Papy," Iris said, smiling softly.

"wait, how did you know it was papyrus? i thought you were blind," Sans said.

"I was and still am, but I can see you guys very little," Iris softly said.

"wow. the experiments have already started working on you," Sans smiled.

Iris nodded and felt her neck for her necklace but it was gone. She started to shake and tremble. She started mumbling about where it could be.

"Brother, what's happening?" Papyrus asked Sans.

"she must've lost her necklace. i think someone gave it to her," Sans sadly said.

Papyrus took off his scarf and softly put it around Iris's neck without alarming her. He backed up and smiled softly.

"H-huh?" Iris felt her neck.

"good going, papyrus. your scarf should help her," Sans said.

"Pa-Papyrus, this is your sc-scarf. Why give it to m-me?" Iris stuttered quietly.

"You need it more than me, sister. Can I ask something?" Papyrus softly spoke.

"G-go ahead." Iris nodded

"Who gave you that necklace? Was it someone in the overworld?" Papyrus asked.

"No, the king a-and queen gave it to me. Th-they treated me like a da-daughter," Iris explained, remembering them.

"you knew the king and queen personally?" Sans asked and sat in front of Iris.

"Yeah. They were the first mo-monsters I ran into. They also had a so-son and a daughter," Iris nodded.

The three talked for hours and never got sleep because Iris told stories about the family and how the overworld was. Every day, Iris's vision got better but her left eye vision was permanently stained red. Iris started to gain magic, but it was weak at first. Iris, Sans, and Papyrus all stayed altogether for a few years in the lab. One day, Sans and Papyrus didn't return from being pulled away. Iris was 15-16 at that time. She cried because her brothers weren't coming back. It reminded her of leaving the royal family and she had a panic attack. By now, the experiments got worse and harsher. Iris gained more magical abilities. One day, Alphys decided to take Iris away from the lab and took her to Waterfall, a location where it had always helped anyone calm down. Iris looked around and calmed down a bit. Alphys showed Iris something she had been working for a few years and Iris helped improve the design. Together, Alphys and Iris were inseparable geeks and robot designers. They came up with the name of the robot, which would be called Mettaton.
