Barry sped over to the door as soon as he heard a knock. He opened it only to be nonchalantly shoved out of the way by Cisco, who went straight for the stacked boxes of cookies on the kitchen island in the West-Allen loft. One of the officers at the precinct had recruited Barry to peddle cookies to his family and friends for the officer's daughter's fundraiser.
"Cookies!" Cisco cheered as he hugged a box of peanut butter cookies to his chest.
"Good morning, Barry," Caitlin greeted him with an amused smile as she shook her head at Cisco's antics and stepped into the loft.
"Morning, Cait," Barry replied as he pulled his fingers through his hair. He was still in his pajamas and only partially awake. He shut the door and watched as Cisco piled cookie boxes into an oversized tote that Caitlin had brought along.
Iris walked out of the bedroom in her robe and pajamas. She raised her eyebrows at Cisco counting his boxes out loud as Caitlin stood there awkwardly holding open the bag.
"I thought you guys were getting your cookies from Star Labs on Monday," Iris asked as she shuffled over to the coffee pot in the kitchen.
"Or I could've sped them over. If you had text me," Barry said with his voice distorted by a yawn. He scratched the side of his hip. "Even though I thought I'd get a chance to sleep in on a Saturday."
"Sorry," Caitlin apologized as she watched Barry slowly walk over to Iris and casually wrap his arm around his wife's waist. "You know how he gets."
"We know," the West-Allens agreed.
"And twenty!" Cisco finished counting. He grinned at Barry as he plopped down on a stool at the kitchen island. "Tell young Samantha that it was great doing business with her."
"Oh, I'm sure she appreciates it at eight dollars a box," Barry said as he grabbed more mugs from the cabinet.
Iris nearly spilled some of her coffee. "Eight dollars?"
"Money well spent," Cisco quipped as he took out one of the boxes. He tore off the lid and ripped open the plastic inside.
"We were on our way to our appointment when Cisco detoured to pick up his cookies. I should've called," Caitlin explained as she accepted a mug of coffee from Barry.
"Don't worry about it," Iris smiled over her mug. She took a sip of her coffee and hummed. She let out a content sigh and then asked, "So, what's the appointment?"
"We're getting haircuts," Cisco said between munches. He tilted the cookie box toward Caitlin, but she shook her head no.
"Haircuts? You get your hair cut together?" Barry asked as he reached over and took some cookies from Cisco's opened box.
"Yeah, then brunch," Cisco replied casually as he dunked one of the cookies into his mug of coffee. "Caitlin likes her mimosas."
"And so do you." Caitlin put one hand on her hip and looked sternly down at Cisco. "Which means no giving the stylist a hard time again, Cisco. I don't want to be late for our reservation at the cafe."
"Sasha knew I wanted to be set under the dryer at the same time. That's why I don't like when we go to Central City Cuts."
"Well, you know how busy the usual place gets this close to the end of the month, Cisco."
Iris let out a light laugh. She put down her mug and looked from Caitlin to Cisco. "Let me get this straight. You two get haircuts together and then go to brunch as like a regular thing."
"Only when we need a trim," Caitlin answered honestly with the stern look cleared from her face. "It's a nice outing from our usual routine."
"Yeah, you gotta shake things up every now and then," Cisco said between munches.
Barry snorted as he grabbed another handful of cookies. He gave Iris a look as he said, "Sometimes I think they're more married than we are."
"Same, babe," Iris agreed as she took one of the cookies from Barry's palm.
"Because we get our hair cut together?" Cisco asked incredulously. He scooted the opened box over to Barry and pulled a fresh one out of the tote. "You hear this," he said to Caitlin.
Caitlin shrugged as she sat on the stool beside Cisco. She frowned at the peanut butter cookies and then glanced at the box of chocolate chip ones on the opposite end of the counter. Iris noticed and grabbed the box.
"It's that you're getting haircuts and brunch together to break up your usual routine of buying groceries and watching House Hunters," Iris said as she slid the box of chocolate chip cookies over to Caitlin.
"I love House Hunters," Barry said to himself as he added more coffee to his mug.
"Who doesn't," Cisco nodded absentmindedly as he checked his watch for the time.
"We grocery shop so much more efficiently together," Caitlin added as she opened the box of cookies.
"All I'm saying is haircuts. Brunch. All your missing is sex afterwards and you've got a Saturday in married life," Iris said bluntly.
Barry and Cisco nearly choked on their cookies. Barry out of amusement. Cisco out of embarrassment.
"Well, we definitely haven't done that after brunch," Caitlin mumbled as she dusted cookie crumbs from her fingertips.
It took a moment for Caitlin to realize that the chatter of her friends had stopped and that the only sound was of her rustling the plastic inside the box. She took out a cookie and looked up. All eyes were on her. She raised her eyebrows and lifted her shoulders in silent response.
Barry leaned over slightly to whisper to his wife. "There was a tone to that, right?"
"It's not a tone. I simply..."
Caitlin popped a cookie into her mouth to give herself time to think. Yes, there was some bitterness in her tone. She didn't need a reminder from two people who looked like and most likely had spent the previous night getting way more done than she was as she stared up at her ceiling alone in bed.
"Guys, I haven't had a date in like two years," Caitlin finally spoke. "And having a healthy sexual..."
She folded her lips from saying anything more because the looks of her friends' faces made her blush. Their expressions were a mix of surprise, pity, and discomfort.
"Um..." Iris started as she glanced from her husband to her friend. "I mean...I get it. I've been there. Worst ten months of my life."
Caitlin fought the urge to pout. She would gladly take ten months. It was why she had almost dated Julien even though she felt no connection with him.
"Uh, yeah," Barry nodded as he self-consciously rubbed the back of his neck. "Me too." He jabbed his thumb in his wife's direction and added, "Longer than Mrs. Ten Months over here."
Iris playfully swatted her husband's chest with the back of her hand.
Cisco's shoulders relaxed and he gave Caitlin a lopsided smile. "Girl, you know I'm past been there. My weekends are buying organic whatever with you during the day and then eating ice cream from the corner store at night. I want sex after brunch, too!"
It was Cisco's turn to be stared at with surprised looks from the group. He drummed his fingers on the island and stammered, "I mean not with Caitlin...necessarily..."
"Necessarily?" Barry repeated.
Caitlin felt her body heat up as she stared at Cisco. She wished he thought it was necessary to...
Caitlin cleared her throat. "I, um, I think we're going to take these cookies and get out your way. We don't want to be late for our haircuts." She let out a nervous chuckle as she slid off the stool. She gave the couple an awkward wave goodbye. "Thanks, Barry. See you Monday, Iris."
Cisco watched Caitlin slip out the door and click it shut behind her. He gathered his bag of cookie boxes. "So... thanks for making haircuts weird, guys."
"Eh, it was already weird," Iris teased.
Barry smirked, "You're welcome."
