"Damn burpees." Seth let out a small sigh as he got off the couch for what felt like the twentieth time that evening. After getting back from their workout and putting Roux to bed, he and Becky had finally settled in to watch AEW's latest pay-per-view. They could barely get five minutes into a match, though, before Roux started to fuss.
Becky tugged him back down to the couch and kissed his cheek. "Damn knees is more like it," she teased gently as she stood. "I'll go get her. She probably just wants to watch with us." Glancing at the screen, she smiled and added, "I think we created a monster." They had started Roux on wrestling early so she would be used to the sounds if they wanted to bring her on the road with them, but the training had perhaps worked too well: now she would start to fuss if she could hear wrestling noises but not see the action.
Seth pulled Becky down for another kiss. It had been a long day and he was looking forward to spending the rest of the night with his wife, but he knew Becky was right: once they put Roux in her chair where she could watch the wrestling, she would probably be happy. "Maybe we just need to start watching wrestling with the sound off," he chuckled, giving her ass a light smack when she headed for the stairs. He forced himself to stand again and brought Roux's chair back towards the couch, positioning it to she would be able to see the screen. So far, they hadn't been too reliant on television to placate her, and he hoped they could stick to that.
"Here's your favourite monster," Becky announced, returning with Roux in her arms. The scowl on the baby's face immediately lifted when Seth took the wrestling off pause and she saw someone get power-slammed to the mat.
"She comes by it honestly, at least." Seth took Roux and cuddled her for a minute before settling her in her chair. Once Roux was raptly watching the match, he sat back so Becky could snuggle up again. They hadn't been able to watch the event live and it had been impossible to avoid spoilers, so they already knew about the major developments: three former WWE stars had made their respective debuts. Bryan Danielson—Seth still found himself thinking of him as Daniel Bryan—and Adam Cole had been somewhat expected, but Ruby Soho—formerly Ruby Riott—was more of a surprise. When Ruby stepped out onto the stage, Seth found himself watching Becky's reaction more than the show. "She looks happy," he remarked.
Becky nodded, smiling wistfully. "She does. And she deserves it. She could have done so much in WWE if the brass had just believed in her."
Smoothing some hair out of Becky's face—he was still getting used to the fiery red again—Seth kissed her forehead. "Having second thoughts?" he asked softly. When she looked confused, he added, "About re-signing with WWE."
He expected an immediate reply, firm and focussed, so Seth was surprised when Becky huffed out a small breath and reached for his left hand, spinning his wedding ring around his finger. "No," Becky said at last, but indecisiveness turned the small word into a drawn-out sigh. "Not really. I guess it's one of those the grass is always greener on the other side things. You'll always wonder about the path not taken."
Seth wasn't entirely convinced. Ever since he and Becky had started dating, he hadn't second-guessed their relationship at all; it was why he felt confident designing her ring just months after they'd gotten together and then proposing not long after. Amidst the chaos of everything else in his life—wrestling, teaching, running businesses—Becky had been his constant. "Your contract's only for a few years," he reminded her gently. WWE had tried to get her to sign for a longer term, but she wanted the freedom to do more acting. "You still have time...."
"Not that much," Becky countered, "not if we want more kids." She glanced down at her belly as if expecting to see her baby bump there still. All her dedication and hard work had made her body toned, though, in even better shape than when she had gone on maternity leave. Once Roux was ready to start school, they wouldn't be taking her on the road with them any longer—except perhaps on the UK tours so she could visit family—and even though that was still years away, they both knew how quickly time could fly.
