Chapter One

"Really Ms. Mills I'm not asking for much, just that you stay after school for a couple of weeks. Look I know that with everything that's been going on, you've probably been put through a lot of str-"

"My mom died Mr. Roberts, of course I've been in a lot of stress; but I promise you I can have everything done by Friday. I mean it's not much just a couple of essays and worksheets right?" I looked up at him pleading with my eyes, "I can do it really, there's no need for me to come after."

He gave me a halfhearted and I internally sighed, knowing I had lost this time, "I'm sorry Andrea but as a teacher I'm required to do what's in the best interest for my students. If it makes you feel any better you won't be the only one here"

I nodded with a smile and made my way out of his classroom.

Damn teachers and their stupid requirements. Stupid freaking laws requiring us to make-up for unexcused absences. Couldn't they have a little heart I mean geez, my freaking mom died give me a break. I sighed obnoxiously while stomping towards the front entrance where I saw my dad's car waiting.

I could see him giving me a 'what the hell' look from his car and I rolled my eyes. I opened the passenger door and sat waiting for him to scold me as he pulled away from the curb.

"Andrea what the hell took you so long? I've been sitting here waiting for," he took a second to look down at his old watch. "15 minutes!"

"My English teacher wants me to start staying after school to make up on some of his lessons."

My dad groaned, "Can't you just do it at home?"

I pursed my lips, "unfortunately not," He turned to look at me, his blue eyes showing how emotionally tired he was. I sighed, "Look dad I can start walking home, it's really not that big of a deal you don't have to pick me up anymore. That's why I have legs you know, let me use them."

He laughed and I smiled missing the sound, "you're something else Andrea."

I shook my head relished in the comfortable silence the way home.

The XX was blasting through the speakers in my room as I worked on some old math homework I found lying on my bed. My dad had left a while back to go to work. Ever since my mom's death he's been taking up the night shifts. I dropped my pencil on the desk and rubbed my hands over my face. I haven't been able to concentrate on anything lately, sighing I turned my head towards the digital clock I had on my nightstand. 10:45.
Getting up I grabbed some sleeping clothes from my drawers and made my way into the bathroom before taking a shower and brushing my teeth. Walking down the stairs I grabbed some water before making sure the front door was locked and going back up so I could go to bed.
