"Alright, alright, truce! Truce!" he exclaimed, his hands flattening against the floorboard when the gun kissed his skin.

"I think I'm the one calling the shots around here." I grinned. "Get it? Shots?"

"If you have to explain the joke, and a dad joke at that, it's not funny." His previous hatred was fast evaporating as his jade eyes rolled into the back of his head, which he nearly slammed against the deck. "Fucking loser."

"Yes, I'm the loser." I motioned as though I was going to punch him again, smiling sweetly when he flinched. "Not the guy who kidnapped a fifteen-year-old to sell him into human trafficking."

"First off," the boy interrupted. "It was not my idea to grab him. It's your fault you took so fucking long to get to the museum. Actually, you should be thanking me. If I didn't step in and convince Finnigan to lure you out, you would've never seen him again."

He looked at me expectantly.

"I'm not . . . I'm not thanking you."

"Rude. Second of all." He adjusted his body underneath my legs, looking way too comfortable with his gun pointed at his head. Then, as a cherry on top for further insult, he propped his head atop his hands, his arms cushioned beneath his skull. "I'm not in the human trafficking business. A little too immoral for me, you see."
