"Fuck," Darkwood moaned through a mouth full of lemon-garlic shrimp. "I love weddings."

The caterer's expression grew more and more panicked as Darkwood plucked nearly all the shrimp skewers off the man's tray, leaving only one behind. 

"You do know there's a seven-course meal planned for the reception, right?" I pointed out. 

"And how would I know that, Sparrow? It's not like my dear brother forwarded me his invitation," he scoffed, devouring his second skewer in under a minute. 

Just one day of steady meals already had his face looking fuller. The gauntness was drained from his face, and the hollows under his eyes were barely noticeable (helped in part by the layers of concealer the makeup artist applied).

So, I  sighed. "At least slow down so you don't get indigestion," I said, handing him a napkin.

Darkwood reached out to grab it, but a foreign pair of hands intercepted and snagged his outstretched fingers.
