I'm sorry this chapter is so short. I've been really busy lately, but enjoy! :) I would love for some feedback in the comments and thank you so much for reading xoxo and thanks for 9 reads haha
After we finished eating our burgers and walked around Newbury a little more, we headed to the Boston Public Garden. “My brother used to take me here when I was younger and we would climb trees, he’s in college right now.” I explained gesturing to the beautiful atmosphere. The pond reflected the branches of the stately trees, it was one of my favorite sights in the world. “Cool,” Luke replied. “How old is he?”
“He’s 20 and he goes to the University of Cambridge.” I responded in a British accent. “Why do you always talk in different accents?” He chuckled. “Haters gonna hate, but talking in different accents is like so much fun” I giggled in a valley girl voice. “I’m tired.” I said warily, walking over to a large oak tree by the water. Sitting down, I laid underneath it’s leafy branches. Luke laid directly next to me. I felt his presence from 2 inches away. Our arms were just barely touching and I could feel him breathing.
We were encapsulated in our own world. Bikers and joggers zipped by on the trails only ten feet away from us but we didn’t notice. “I lied to you.” Luke whispered, staring up up at the sky. I closed my eyes and waited for him to break my heart. “I didn’t move here because my mom got a job.” He sighed. “My parents got divorced and they sent me here to live with my aunt.”
Luke and I laid in silence together. There was nothing to be said. We already knew how we felt. I don’t know how long we sat there, it could have been three hours or three minutes.what we wanted to say. We just listened to the distant hum of the city together. The I don’t know how long we stayed there, hours, minutes. Hell, we could’ve stayed there for days and not noticed a thing. I could never do this with anyone else, probably because Luke was different from everyone else.
Unfortunately, all good things had to come to an end. “I think we should go.” Luke whispered. “School is probably getting out soon and my aunt will be expecting me.” I nodded and reluctantly stood up.
“Dammit August, I wanted to help you up like the gentleman I am!” Luke whined. “In your dreams blondey.” I giggled. I spotted an ice cream truck further up the road and smiled. “I’m getting ice cream and I literally don’t even care if you aren’t getting any. I want my damn ice cream!” I shouted, sprinting towards the truck. Luke chased after me, laughing to himself. When he caught up to me, I was already at the truck ordering a cookie ice cream sandwich. Luke ordered an oreo ice cream bar and we walked together. “If you could have three wishes, what would they be?” Luke asked, biting off the corner of his ice cream. “I would want to be Eponine in Les Miserables on broadway,” I said biting the inside of my cheek. “I just want a career in the arts. It’s all I wanted to do since I was a little girl.”
“I want to be in a band, I want to not fail at life, and I want to fall in love.” Luke replied, staring into my eyes. “You should totally start a band.” I assured, “Calum plays bass and Michael plays guitar y’know.” His head perked up. “Really?” He exclaimed, “I should totally jam with them sometime. That is so cool, thanks for telling me!” I smiled at him in wonder and confusion. Luke could go from completely serious to silly in two seconds. He was a mystery, I barely knew anything about him but I intended to find out more.
We reached my apartment and I was sad that it was time to say goodbye. “I gotta go.” I groaned apologetically, gesturing to my apartment. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” Luke smiled. I didn’t know if I should hug him or shake his hand or some crap like that. Before I could finish my thought, Luke hugged me and I hugged him back tightly. My head rested in the crook of his neck and I felt safe. He didn’t have abs or huge arms but he was toned. I would like him either way, I didn’t care much for the aspect of only liking someone for body image.
We stayed there for a couple more seconds. After pulling apart, I felt an emptiness spread across my chest and suddenly felt colder than I was before. “Goodbye future Eponine.” he said with a small smile forming on his lips. He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned away, walking down the street.
I quickly walked into my apartment building. Once I was in the lobby, my face broke out into a huge grin and I laughed to myself. I was falling for Luke Hemmings.
