Promises

Shades's face scrunched in his face, his hand was clenching his husband's hand tighter in his sleep. Solas was curled up against his left side; with his nose against his ribs, and a soft snuffling sounding snore came from his mouth.

Searcher groaned as he slowly woke up.

A sleepy murmur of words escaped the sleeping guardian of darkness.

Searcher rubbed the area around his right eyesocket, his glasses were on the bedside table.

A loud snort escaped Solas, almost comically loud.

"Ser..." A voice slurred out.

"Shades?"

"My eye lights feel weird..." Shades slurred out, blinking sluggishly.

Searcher looked at Shades.

"Your eyelights are purple again."

"What?" Shades said confused.

"Your eyelights are purple again. The doctor said that it's a side effect, because most of your Magic is concentrated on the pregnancy."

"Pff... of course, just what I need." Shades said dryly.

At that moment the door opened, and Doctor Sans walked in, looking surprised to see Shades up, as if he had burned through the sedatives in his system. "Since you're up, I will be giving you a look over, but you'll still be here for a few days, until you stabilize a bit more."

Searcher smiled as he covered Solas with his haori.

"He doesn't need to move for this check up." Doctor Sans told the married couple, pulling out a device.

Searcher nodded his head as he sat back down.

"This... will allow us to scan your health and Soulings without initiating a check, and unless its an emergency, don't check or summon your Soul until I tell you that you're healthy enough to do that." Doctor Sans told them, and Shades nodded his head quietly, squeezing Ser's hand.

The only sound was the small beeps from the device as he moved it above Shades's body, his eye lights taking in every bit of data. "While not as bad as some cases, you will still be mostly bed bound during the pregnancy. But I will suggest getting a lot more sun, its not well known but Skeleton monsters, once upon a time, could feed and recharge via it, and it can help our heath."

"Sunlight..." Shades said quietly, that meant in his weakened state he had to be outside the void core. Well, Ser did have his gardens and his own Godly temple in Reapertale.. so maybe there?

Searcher hummed. "I know several good places where he'll get a lot of sun, and stay out of trouble."

"Hey, I'm the good child." Shades giggled.

"I know... I was talking about the kids."

"Goof." Shades muttered.

"I'm your Goof."

"All mine, and I'm not sharing... maybe with our Pallys though.." Shades said teasingly, the last part was a whisper to him alone.

Searcher nodded his head, it wasn't a bad idea, he could cope with the idea of sharing his husband with their Pallys...

If all the children didn't scare off them first that is.

"..If the kids don't scare them.." He muttered.

Shades giggled tiredly, and looked at the Doctor who was watching them, amused. "How long will I be here?"

"The scans look good, I've already giving your mate the long term plans to treat you. We'll give you your first treatment after lunch, and depending on how you respond, you may be home, tonight, in your own bed." Doctor Sans told them.

"Home... I miss it already." Shades sighed.

Searcher hummed, and he nodded his head. He missed it too.

"Now, I'm going to send up a light breakfast for all three of you. You will have to rest for now, and have a light soup for lunch, so the first treatment will take effect quickly," Doctor Sans said, putting the device away.

"Okay, and thank you." Searcher told the doctor.

The doctor nodded and he left, leaving the couple and sleeping child alone.

"Ser... the sunlight part, he says I need it a lot...but I don't know how my powers will react, I'm a guardians of shadows, aka darkness..." He said, worriedly.

"If it makes you feel better, I can make something that casts a lot of shadow, so that I can move you into the shadows if the sunlight overwhelms you." He told Shades. "Or we could ask the Fates about that."

"They're just arguing and giving me a migraine, from the feel of it they'll be at it... for quiet a while." Shades replied flatly, he was very glad that Ser wasn't forced to listen to the Fates 24/7.

"So Plan A: Build something that creates a lot of shadows for you to hide in?" Searcher asked him. "We could ask the Doctor if he has any advice that he could share with us."

"He's no Sci Sans, he's literally medical only, not Science. And Sci won't exit for eons yet." Shades sighed.

The Fates got a bit louder with their argument.

What the heck were Eaters?

And why were they sniping at another Fate?

"I know... But something is better than nothing."

"Mmm, hopefully." Shades replied and he snorted at some of the words the Fates were saying about the Eaters.

".... I do not want to know what the Fates are talking about."

"Actually, it's not about us for once and it explains why our split multiverse is locked tighter then a Chasity belt," Shades said, he tilted his head a bit as he couldn't help but focus on the conversation.

Searcher put two and two together. "These Eaters have something to do with that, don't they..."

"There whole.. multiverse were axetale variants, they ate there way out of there multiverse and like a plague of locusts swarm other multiverses. They locked ours away when they almost brushed us, just as they pulled me back in time the final time... they are talking with a fate of another multiverse where the Ink there sacrificed his soul to seal off his multiverse after they ate into it, and also push them back," Shades whispered.

"That kind of seal won't hold them off forever..."

"No, it won't. The fate there is very upset as Ink was a very good Ink and took care of the balances all of them, but now he barely remembers day to day and much reduced. That fate is going to have to go the Error route, because no one can figure out how to unseal his soul again without a huge backlash onto that multiverse and releasing the Eaters full force again," Shades responded.

Searcher hummed. "Well... There's nothing to stop us from doing something about that, and if we can't do anything about that, there is nothing to stop us from providing support to the Soul."

"Its going to have to wait till the babies are born and weaned, as I'll have to go via the Fates path to do anything. I.. don't even know if you can enter the fates area Ser, my body and magic was changed to withstand there power so I could go face to face. They actually want me to move the sealed soul to the vaults, at least till they can find a way to unseal it," Shades told him, which meant he'd be travelling outside there multiverse alone to retrieve it.

"Okay..." Searcher whispered.

"They promised it will take years to that point though, so we won't have to worry about that yet," Shades promised.
