Jujutsu Kaisen: Inferno

Chapter 2

Ijichi was driving the four of them to the location of their next mission, Megumi was sitting shotgun while Sanemi, Yuji and Nobara were at the back, their destination – Eishuu juvenile detention center.

Along the way Ijichi explained the situation:

"Our window verified the curse womb three hours ago. Most inmates were successfully evacuated, after which the center was isolated, also the citizens within a 500-meter radius have also been evacuated."

"Ijichi-San, what's a window here?" Yuji interrupted the debriefing, Ijichi sighed having to explain the very basics of jujutsu world to him.

"A window is a member of Jujutsu tech who can see curses, but aren't sorcerers. Anyways let's continue, Detainee block 2, that's where the curse womb is, with five detainees remaining there, if this Curse womb is the type that metamorphoses, we predict it will become a special-grade cursed spirit."

"special grade..." Megumi, Nobara and Sanemi said in unison

"Ijichi-San, aren't we heavily underqualified for such a mission?" Sanemi added

"umm... I still don't understand what "special-grade" means." Yuji intervened.

"Then allow me to explain it so even idiots can understand." After explaining every grade with conventional weaponry comparisons Ijichi took a deep inhale

"That's real bad!" well at least now you understand it, Itadori.

"Normally a jujutsu sorcerer on par with the cursed spirit would take on the mission." Megumi explained before Sanemi continued:

"Usually this would mean Gojo-sensei"

"I see." Yuji took a look around himself "so where is Gojo-sensei?"

"Away on a business trip" the three of them said "He's not someone who should be loafing around at the school in the first place."

"And unfortunately, we're constantly short-handed in this business." Ijichi continued "so, you'll have to undertake missions beyond your power. The current case however is an abnormal and urgent one. Do not fight under any circumstances if you encounter a special-grade, your options are to either run or die." Out of the options only one was satisfying yet would be the harder one to successfully pull of as well. "Remember that your mission is strictly the verification and rescue of survivors"

At this point a voice could be heard in the gateway to the center territory "Excuse me, where's Tadashi?!" it was a woman possibly asking for any information about her son: "Is Tadashi... my son Tadashi all right?!" Ijichi stood in front of Yuji

"Please step away, there's a possibility that poisonous gas has spread throughout the center. We cannot share any more details at this time." The woman collapsed to her knees burying her face in her hands and started crying, Sanemi looked away 'her son is most probably dead, and here we are trying to convince her not to worry.' Yuji started talking with a more serious voice:

"Sanemi, Fushiguro, Kugisaki, we're gonna save them!"

"Of course, we are." Nobara agreed, however Megumi and Sanemi remained quiet, having seen cases such as this one, they didn't have high hopes for saving them, or even seeing them alive.

"Be careful, I'll put up my veil" Ijichi started chanting and suddenly the sky grew darker, as if it became night.

"It's becoming night!"  Yuji said excitedly.

"It's veil. There's a residential area nearby, and this barrier conceals us from the outside world." Megumi explained.

"Incredible!"
