Hank's POV:
What? We have to go? Go where?
"No, no you need your rest. You were just in a coma, come on lay back down."
I help my wife to her feet, holding her steady in my arms. I attempt to guide her back to the bed, but she refuses.
"Hank, I'm serious. We have to go now. Something seriously wrong is happening here and we're both in danger. I can explain later, but we have to go."
"Love, everything is okay. The coma probably just gave you bad dreams, just lie down for me, please?"
"No, no Hank we can't waste any time. He'll back be down again soon, I can't let you get hurt again."
"I'm fine, nobody is gonna hurt me darling."
"Please, we need to leave..."
Crimson appeared frustrated with me and panicked, maybe even scared. I looked into her eyes and saw the fear in them. My instincts kicked in, I had to protect my wife, even if I don't know what I'm protecting her from.
"Okay, okay, let's go. Wait here and I'll go get a car. I'll be back for you in a minute, I promise."
I gave her one soft kiss on the forehead and left the room. My mind was soaring at a million miles an hour.
What's happening?
Why am I in danger?
Who is the threat?
I don't have time for answers. I do what I have to do, questions come when we're safe again; when she feels safe again.
I sneak my way through the school, trying to move quickly without waking any students. I turn a corner a little too quickly and bump into someone. Shit.
"Sorry Erik"
"Where are you going? Shouldn't you be with Crimson?"
"Uh- Warren wanted a minute alone with her. I'm just grabbing a drink."
"Well, alright then"
I started to walk away, but Erik grabbed my arm and made me face him again.
"You'll tell me if she wakes up, right?"
"Yeah, yeah, I will."
"Promise me McCoy"
"I promise Erik"
"Good."
I finally slipped away. I did the right thing, right? I don't know who is the enemy right now. Trust no one, I suppose. But, did I really have to lie to him like that? I push the thoughts out of my head and move forward through the school.
I get into the garage and grab a key at random. I press the button and get into whatever car's lights turned on. I start the engine and quietly drive out of the garage. I stopped the car near the window to the lab.
Crimson sees me and pulls the small window open. I reach down through the window and help to pull her up through it. I notice how thin she's gotten since she slipped into a coma, I'd say she feels fragile, but I know better.
We get settled in the car and quickly drive off. At this point I don't even know where I'm driving too. I've lived in the school with Charles for decades, I don't exactly have anywhere else to go. I don't have anywhere else to go, not really anyway.
"Hank-"
"Get some rest love, I'll keep us safe. I promise."
I place my hand on her thigh and give it a reassuring squeeze. She offers me a tired smile in return. She rests her head against the window and quickly falls asleep.
I turn on the radio and put it on the quietest setting. I'm only really half listening to it when something catches my attention.
"Folks it's a cold December night out in Westchester, we should be expecting some snow fall later this week."
December. I know where we can go.
I hope they didn't move the spare key.
Author's Note:
Where is Hank taking them?
Why December?
Which promises will be broken?
